Do you do the Radiant Quests?

Post » Thu Sep 05, 2013 3:48 pm

I honestly think that Radiant quests were a good idea.. even if not executed properly...

helps for RP Purposes... like if you want to RP as a Thief, it gives you more "commissions" after the MQ is done...

Obviously could have been Implemented better, but the Idea behind it is good I think...

hopefully they improve upon it in future titles...

But I often see people on these forums bashing Radiant Quests so...

Do you actually do the Radiant Quests?

Nope. Been playing on PS3 for a few hundred hours and I haven't gotten either the side quests trophy or the misc objectives trophy.

i do. I don't think they were implemented properly, but they are still a good idea. A few radiant quests for the Companions in between their 'main' quests would really have improved the questline, for example. They should have been used to break up the big questlines, but as it stands they feel a bit ... muddled.

They could really have been improved if NPCs gave you notes with directions to the location, too. That way they would have catered a bit more to roleplayers without the added cost of voice acting. Still, I'm reasonably happy with them as they are.

They're rather lackluster, I must say. I mean they are all just... 'Go there, kill that and get this".

... and it's stuck in a loop, for all eternity.

The concept is a good. It's just not finished.

It depends, mainly those that make me Thane.

I don't them often now since in my experience as a PS3 player, they bug out and stay in your misc log permanently.

Nope. I avoid them as much as possible. The game already has a lot of fetch quests but at least they have a minimal amount of backstory and character interaction. The radiant quests are fetch quests without a single element of backstory. Boring as hell.

Got to be carefull not to talk too much to NPCs in towns as I have about 20 or so side quests to do atm (Thanks!). Never mind the radiant quests! ... how much time can I play this game?? :D

I'd much rather have an abundance of radiant quests than just have the game's 'proper' quests. That's my biggest issue with Oblivion: there's not enough quests to do. In the entire Imperial City, capital of the Empire, there are only TWO non-guild quests to do. TWO! Not a single market trader needs you to get supplies. Not a single sailor has lost cargo in the Niben. In Skyrim, I can do plenty of little, helpful things. It's realistic. When I help someone, I don't go on an epic adventure and learn their life's story. I help them and get a 'thank you'.

I like the idea behind them, randomness keeps the game fresh, but the idea still needs some work. I do some radiant quests on occasion, but most of my Skyrim time is now spent just doing what I want to do, not quests for other parties. I get most of my money from people who are trying to kill me.

Valid point, but those radiant quests have zero replayability factor for me. Once I've gotten someone their item in some random cave on a playthrough, you can be sure I won't do it on another playthrough. Whereas a specifically designed quest like the Guilds, the Deadric ones, Forbiden Legend, A scroll for Anka, In my time of need, etc. all can be done again on another character and still be interesting IMO.

Realistic = real life.
Now if tomorrow morning I decide to take a walk at a market or enter a shop, neither the market owner nor shopkeeper will ever ask me anything nor even say hi if I walk by them. While in Skyrim, walking yards by someone means is like "omg you gotta help me so bad!!!1" all whilst I'm like "wat.." Especially if they spice things up with "I work Belethor blah blah " without no interaction been made whatsoever. It's not really realistic. Either in real life you live in a village so small you know literally everyone helping each other out like ye olde days, otherwise I'm not seeing it happening in a city like Solitude or Whiterun.

yes and no, depends on the quest type

I sometimes do bounty quests (usually to get a reason besides wanting to visit a location... halted stream camp is the big one I try to do if I get no semi-radiant side quest to it)

Depends on the RP. I like mercenary as a "job", meaning doing alot of Jarl/steward jobs or getting them from an Inn keeper. The Radiant quest's work very well for that.

I DO wish they had done a much better job of the radiant quests inside the Companions, TG, DB and CoW. For Example, I don't think a person would get the 1st questline job in TG on their 1st day in the guild, so I try to do at least 4 to 6 radiant quests for Vex and Devlin before I "do" that one, even if it is sitting in my log. What I actually try with TG is to make at least 8 months to a yr go by from the time the character gets into the TG to the errr last major quest. Radiant quests help with that alot, so the character isn't just exploring to make the time go by, when they should be working... makes no sense to be "leader of a thieves guild" if all you did was lollygag around in Nordic ruins, not actually steal stuff.

Some work phenomenally well, some... Not so much. It's definitely a great idea that deserves further iteration.

Most of the issues come from poor context for the quests. Usually these are the "Find item in dungeon" as a lot of the time, an items placement makes no logical sense. It comes off as blatantly transparent random assignation.

I do, from time to time. I don't think they are particularly interesting by themselves, but they give an excuse for going into a dungeon I haven't been in yet on that character. Mostly the Bounty things are the ones I do.

That said, I think that such radiant quests are never going to feel properly done. The basic premise is an unending list of objectives. That will feel repetitive no matter what. For the next game, I wouldn't mind them being in, as long as they focused more in writing good quests that are not affected by the radiant system.

From time to time if I am looking for more to do, as they're always available. Could have been more than just fetch quest or bounties that all lead to dungeon crawling.

It's a step in the right direction. Even if it's kill someone, get your reward, then kill that same guy again. But the more variety, the better, and radiant quests are an important step forward in the line of:

No quest

Linear quest

Side Quests

Radiant Quests

??? I'd guess something like dynamic radiant quests. Let's say a radiant quest that can be handled in multiple ways (kill someone or spare him) with consequences (fight off/hide from a revenge attack or fight/negotiate/bribe whoever called the hit), etc. Each quest would be somewhere between 2-4 stages, and even with 6-7 original radiant story lines there would be a lot more replayability. Not only can quests be done differently, but with more diversity they don't get old so fast.

I treat Radiant Quests the way I treat everything else in the game. I do them when they're appropriate for a character and I don't do them when they're not appropriate for a character.

I do quests like Queen Freydis' Sword and stuff, but I don't do radiants like Companions stuff which just repeat over and over again.

Not really, too many caves, ruins and forts to clear out.

Not including all the small quests from NPCs in cities.

I do them if it pertains to the RP I'm doing. As previously stated, I try not to talk to too ,any NpC's as I hate having too many quests open. Maybe that's my OCD speaking. But yes i do them.
