How viable is one handed+spell and dual casting

Post » Sun Sep 08, 2013 7:20 am

Im getting bored of two handed and was wondering how viable one handed + a spell is? I would dual cast as well but what combos would you recommend?

One Handed+Spell is probably the most versatile.

You can do nearly anything with it.

Nightblades, Battlemages and Spellblades are probably some of the most fun and versatile playstyles.

Hmm. I don't think Illusion will be that great. Im not sneaking. And I know destruction is generally weak and I don't want to spam dual casting impact..

Melee staff + Offhand spell.

any play style is viable, even unarmed.

if you are on a PC, the "better Magic" mod is very useful and is one of the "must haves" for me. it makes Destruction very useful. Also, Illusion is incredibly fun to screw with the NPC.

BTW fun fact, OBlivion's nightblade class did not major in Illusion or Stealth and actually used Destruction, Restoration, and Alteration though still apparently was supposed to be played as a stealth character. Also, The Battle MAge class has no Major armor class at all, it was the Spellblade and crusader that majored in Heavy armor.

This. Definitely my favorite types of playstyles.

not quite Michael, MOST are viable, but not all...

my "only attack people by throwing clutter at them with Telekinesis" play style did not work.. at all....

Considering that Telekinesis is a magic-hungry-pile-of-[censored] spell that could have been so much better, I can see why it wouldn't work. xD

Illusion can work with one-handed. I used it on my argonian bartender. Great for strike/calm/strike/calm/strike/calm... rinse repeat. Don't do that on humans/human-souled characters in town (such as vampires) because its considered an assault. Other than that its great fun for a sneaky one-handed type.

Duel casting... eh. I don't like how it was implemented. For example, say I have 250/500 health left. If I cast healing separately with both hands then I can heal myself to say, 450/500 health, whereas if I duel cast healing I only get 375/500. I don't heal as much, but I heal faster. Basically you can heal/deal more damage faster with Restoration/Destruction, or make effects last longer/strong with Illusion/Alteration. Its your call really.

Thanks. What else is good besides Paralysis anbd One handed? I guess frost could work cause I could be slowing enemies down and such...

That wouldn't be that useful in Skyrim as nearly everything has a resistance to it.

pretty much any spell works just fine still. Fire is good for if you're running away from something but still want damage. lightning is good for mages. Restoration and alteration should not need to be explained. Illusion is fun for screwing with people or making quick exits.
