I'll try to put this the best way I can. There's a part of my house that has a flat roof and it is a PITA to deal with at the best of times. No $$$ to redo it, so I have to deal with it the best way possible. I have a syphon rig outside that does a decent job, but the problem comes from the fact I have to go outside to prime the thing. This leads to some rather "dangerous" situations where I have been outside and lightning has struck near me. One time left me laughing more than scared as my ears were ringing from the experience.
What I did was look online for pumps and found a .83 horsepower lawn pump that looked like it would do the job, but it doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere now. Would it be ok to use a 1HP pump, or would that svck the roof off the house?
Info:
Structure is 8' tall and I use a 3/4 to 1inch diameter pipe that goes up 8ft and across about 1 to 2 feet. I feed it through about 25' of garden hose to act as a slow down. This helps deal with heavy rain where the water isn't taken off too quickly, yet it isn't done too slowly either.
I found some calculations that dealt with lawn equipment that talked about every 30' to 35' of elevation you need about X amount of HP/PSI to make it work.
As said above, would a 1 horse power pump work? There's one I have my eye on at Lowes. Though it's $100 more than I want to spend, around $186 vs the $89 I intended, it seems to be my best option/choice. It has a garden hose fitting on it and I would just need to buy a female adaptor to make things work out better.
