Why are so many people flakey?

Post » Tue Oct 01, 2013 1:16 pm

Does anyone else experience a multitude of unreliable people in their lives? Certainly there are those who live up to their word for the most part but it seems like they are few and far between. Most of the time I get people who have no problems making plans with me but never answer their phones/texts or contact me about it when the time in question comes. For the most part I've just learned to live with it, and even to loosen up on it to give people the benefit of the doubt, but recently its just getting to me.

The word of an Englishmen is his honour, once upon a time as good as a bond sealed in blood. That's what I try to live by but I often fail, never intentionally, I've just got such a terrible memory - especially if it isnt anything actually relating to me personally.

I've never really met anyone I would call 'flakey'.

I've known a few, a lot of them being my family. It bugs me because I take promises and debts seriously. I do things if someone asks a favour in return, but seldom seems to happen for me. Like recently, my brother in law I asked to by me GTA V since I'm broke and I bought a couple games a year or so in return for him doing the same should I ask. I get a 'sure' and then suddenly no contact. I just hate when people don't live up to oaths, promises and debts and I try to pay mine as promptly as possible.

I understand the memory thing. But is it really that hard for two people to remember their plans less than a week an advance with me? I really don't think its because they're trying to avoid me either. I have been that guy before so I certainly know what that looks like.

EDIT: Honestly It's just my circle of friends. Not everyone I know is like that. It's just them, they're known for it even.

Some of my family members are definitely flakey I suppose. Lots of other people I know too.

I'm glad its them and not me because I usually don't have any premonitions of doing things with them. (The ones I don't care for.)

But I will still help them if they need the hand, moving furniture or a couch or something.

Edit I usually don't want anything to really do with them.
