Dueling: Most Needed Feature For Launch

Post » Tue Oct 01, 2013 4:00 pm

Its been a while since we've had this discussion and I think its worth bringing up again, in the hope that some developer sees how important this feature is.

Dueling is great for the following reasons:

1. Build testing

2. Player rivalries within factions

3. Ability to set up player tournaments

4. Its repeatable player driven gameplay

5. It does not infringe on anyone else's play*

6. Truly skill based 1v1 combat, no inequality in buffs from Keep ownership, no surprise attacks, no allies jumping in

7. Immersion: why can I not challenge people to a fight?

8. Spontaneous opportunity for grouping and friendships. When I have a great duel with someone, I ask them to group up and often form friendships.

9. Extraordinarily good cost benefit ratio in terms of resources (very little time or money required to add)

10. Does not at all detract from AvAvA PvP**

I think this feature ought to be added ASAP. Prior to launch. Its one of few such requests that are doable.

* A simple menu toggle for "auto ignore" can prevent people who don't like the feature from ever having to deal with it.

** Unlike arenas or battle grounds, dueling is hardly even PvP at all. Its so small scale and so unlikely to include a substantial number of players at any one time, that it will not detract from the AvA.

NOTE:

Against my better judgement, I am adding a poll. Although everyone can obviously do what they want, I ask that you don't simply vote but also post some supporting arguments for your opinion. Thank you.

Personally I like my PVP in battlegrounds/large scale events. I was never really a fan of duels or arenas, only time I ever did 1v1 was for RP purposes. So yeah, not important to me at all.

It's a nice feature but it's not the most needed.

I would really like this feature to be in at launch. If you had a friendly rivalry with another player in your own faction it's currently impossible to test yourself against them to prove who is better. With the way PvP is right now I don't see many 1v1 happening as most people are going to be in groups, unless the group decided it would stay out of a match and let two people duel. :D

Psh. We all know that would never happen!

Also, to whomever picked the last option, you have lost credibility by quoting Dr. Seuss in this debate (it was all part of my master plan.)
