games that have changed your life..

what are some games that changed the way you look at life or you have learnt valuable life lessons from? and how did they change it?

for me there were a few...

(GameCube) Tales of Symphonia: in all Honesty, i related quite a bit with Yggdrasill (the game main Antagonist) at first, being an outcast for most of my life, but by the end of the game, I had a completely new outlook on life.. I went out of my way to discourage Racism and Segregation within my Community and to promote uniqueness.. Guess you could say the protagonists of ToS rubbed off on me.. and Yggdrasills final words "Farewell my Shadow, you who stand at the end of the path I chose not to follow.. I wanted my own world, so I don't regret my choice.. I shall continue to choose this path" remains one of the most powerful quotes to me, which I tell myself whenever regretting something I have done or paths i have taken..

(Arcade Machine) PacMan: taught me the value of friendly Competition.. back In high school we had a greasy spoon diner near our school, we would hang out there and they had a Vintage PacMan machine.. me and a friend would spend so many Quarters on that thing, trying to knock off each others top scores.. when the Diner went out of business I bought the PacMan machine from them and moved it into the break-room at the office (where that friend also works), and to this day 4 years later we still try and knock each others highscores off...

so, what are some games that have changed your outlook on life or taught you a valuable lesson?

Majora's Mask. Made me realize there were rare games out there about a broader issue.

Perhaps Everquest. It was the first MMO I played.

Definitely Morrowind, in a different way. It's the first very modable game I played and also brought my attention to this forum.

Morrowind.

I am a highly rational person to the point that I tend to react allergically to what I call refusing to live in reality. You know, alternative healing, holism, all that jazz, not for me.

Morrowind opened my eyes to the philosophical beauty of these kinds of mental constructs and the joy of seeing things through the eye of the psyche instead of the ratio, if that makes sense.

"You no longer bear the burden of prophecy.
You have achieved your destiny.
You are free.
The doomed Dwemer's folly, Lord Dagoth's temptation,
the Tribunal's seduction, the god's heart freed,
the prophecy fulfilled.
All fates sealed and sins redeemed.
If you have pity, mourn the loss, but let the weeping cease.
The Blight is gone, and the sun's golden honey gilds the land.
Hail savior, Hortator, and Nerevarine.
Your people look to you for protection.
Monster and villains great and small still threaten the people of Vvardenfell.
Enemies and evils abound, yet indomitable will might rid Morrowind of all its ills.
For you, our thanks and blessings; our gift and token given.
Come; take this thing from the hand of god.
"

Peek-a-boo - as a parent, this game takes on a great new twist: seeing your wee one smile, and make that oh so great giggle that only wee ones can make..awesome memoreis and bonding

Tag - I've been payed to play various versions of this game, it allows for so many metaphors regarding life and group dynamics.

8-ball - So many hours spent playing it with my dad - a tradition that I will pass on to my youngin's.

Cribbage - same as 8-ball

As for any electronic games, none come to mind

Oblivion. And not even really because of the game itself, but the ways in which I could http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/5977 http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/16742/? http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/23793/? http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/26369/? http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/29564//?. While I've had to wind down my modding because of schoolwork, I learned a great deal while modding, both about myself and about developing things for a wider audience.

I imagine that any number of video games I've played over the course of my lifetime have impacted me in ways that I'll never know, but they definitely helped shape who I am as a person.

On a more noticeable scale, I'd say World of Warcraft really impacted my life. On top of causing a weight gain of 40 pounds, it also taught me the value of personal friendship, with guild mates that I still to this day (I don't play the game anymore) keep in touch with, and it really changed my perspective on life. It taught me to be open, heard, and not scared to speak my mind. The ability to say whatever I wanted online without repercussion translated into the real world in the way that it taught me to be bold and real.

Even though I don't play anymore, WoW will always hold a special place in my heart, and a tear will always be shed when I think about the hours..countless hours..no, countless months, doing things with my friend Cashis. I've never met him, but we had a hell of a good time in Azeroth, and we still talk to this day through texts and phone calls. :)

The Descent series, mainly Descent 3 made my childhood. No game has ever been like it, and for that, it holds a very special place in my heart.

Pokemon Blue. Everything about my life would be so massively different if not for Pokemon. ive met nearly all of my friends due to our common interest. I met my boyfriend, who i live with in real life, through it as well. It is so huge that no other games, no matter how much they influenced me, can even begin to compare to the impact.
