Of questing and story

Here is another one of my selfish wants and needs for The Elder Scrolls Online. Recently I made the legendary crossover from console gaming to PC gaming. played a few MMO's for the first time, WOW, DIII and SWOTR. for the record, I had never experienced an MMO game until a week ago. after playing at least 40+ hours in each game I can honestly say that the entire experience, aside from multiplayer, was just [censored] work and walking. overall boring and very disappointing. questing was at an all time low, not once have I cared less about a quest, story or campaign. the disappointment can overall be my own fault for over-hyping these games for myself. SWOTR in general was a complete let down as it felt exactly like WOW. nothing but [censored] work and walking.

I could be the only one that shares this opinion but I just do not want TESO to be like WOW and SWOTR. the questing needs to be a billion times better. I don't want to talk to someone, understand the task [ [censored] work ] and then walk to the location of the task and complete the [[censored] work] task, then walk all the way back to the quest giver to complete the quest. this simplistic form of questing and story is what has ruined the entire MMO experience for me. it seems too repetitive and tedious. the fact that the only joy I received was during multiplayer, is sad. could I be the only individual on here that hates the way questing is done in MMO's? surely the games I played may have been horrible, but understand I am not saying that all MMO's are bad. just the ones I played. I know they have already came out and explained that TESO would not be a true MMO and whatever it is they are doing, I hope they are trying their best. I also want to care more about the story. for me, skyrim was the closest thing to a perfect RPG experience. if they could add multiplayer, improve upon what they did in skyrim and revolutionize the whole questing experience that WOW, SWOTR and DIII certainly failed at. only then will I be happy. then again, by the looks of it, they already are. sorry I don't mean to sound complainsive, but after playing MMO's for the first time these issues, for me, just had to be brought up. then again, I am just some console gamer that made the cross to PC for the first time.

P.S. I don't mean to sound skyrim orientated, it is just the most recent game.

Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your first MMO experience, but the three you mentioned are not necessarily good examples of a well-made MMO. This game is also not being designed as a MMO, but an Online RPG. You may be able to find some videos of gameplay to get a better sense of the game. We all hope that ESO will be well-developed and break from the monotony of current MMO standards. Best of luck to you, and hope to see you at launch.

I don't know how you could say WoW wasn't a well-made MMO. Its the largest of all time. You might not like it but you can't say that it wasn't well-made.

Also, ESO is still an MMO no matter how many times they say "Online RPG."

Different MMOs have pros and cons when it comes to questing/story. D3 is not MMO. SWTOR has done the best job so far for questing (in MMO), few things I didn't like is that zones are very linear, a lot of quests were repetitive and easy. WoW questing is just boring, walls of text with very stupid stories, also very easy.

ESO is an MMO so don't expect anything special in that part, all off side quests will be very similar to other MMOs. As for main story quest it will all depend on how good or bad ZOS will make it.

This. Some people may not like WoW, but it's arguably one of the best well-made MMO's of all-time. And no matter how ZOS puts it, it's still an MMO.

I still like the story from World of warcraft, the game mechanics is what drove me away.. WoW had questing right, with the chains that kept you intrigued on where it was going. especially when they added phasing. Im sorry you experience was off but every MMO is not the same, i hate seeing them grouped. even though they may copy the same UI same technical garbage... theres always something unique with each that either makes or breaks it. ESO is breaking the mold. there will be people continuously trying to compare and find SOMETHING to nit pick. An MMO is what YOU the player make it in the end. the devs can only do so much.

I would recommend you try out Star Trek Online, it can be downloaded for free and played for free and you will have access the entire game even if you decide never to spend any cash in the store or start a subscription. There are perks for starting a subscription but you do not gain any access to the story content from a subscription.

If you do decide to try out STO I would like to invite you to join my fleet, The Apocalyptic Fleet. We are a very active group with at least 20 to 30 members on at peak times and there are many in the fleet that will be glad to help you, myself included. This will give you access to a good fleet/guild in an MMO and that is one of the things I suspect you have missed when you tried those other MMO's. Being part of an active fleet/guild that has really good intentions for all of its members is one of the best things about playing an MMO and you really do need to experience that before you decide MMO's are not for you.

thank you, I will download STO and play it. hopefully it will be pleasurable. as for your offer goes, I respectfully decline but greatly appreciate it. it is people like you that make gaming communities so welcoming and enjoyable. best of luck to your fleet and every member in it.

oh and I did experience the multiplayer portions of the MMO's I played. I joined one guild in WOW. it was fun. but as far as my complaints go, I just dislike questing in MMO's. for now.
