Daggerfall covenant, Bretons rule?

Post » Sat Oct 19, 2013 5:40 pm

So i was thinking... yea sometimes it happens

As it seems to me the Daggerfall Covenant will most likely be most populated by Breton players, or at least that's my concern.

Bretons are humans. Most humans love to play them humans...

My guess is that most people would choose this race as they are the only human(ish) race in the DC that is white. Also they are the most naturally talented human race in the field of magics. Also there are probably no reasons a Breton could play as a warrior, unlike in the single player games.

Orcs are uuugglllyyyyy,,,, oohhh noooo. i don't want to play an ugly char if i have to look at it for a long timeeeee!!! (/sarcasm off) but that's my estimation on why people won't play them.

Then again, they look like brutes and as such will appeal to the warrior and barbaric players, not to casters most likely.

Then there are the Redguards. For some reason in games i have played, the black race is the one human race that is usually the least played race.

Also a big contester for the warrior players, for they are the "most talented warriors on all Tamriel". that is also the reason casters will most likely not choose Redguards.

As such, most of the casters will most likely choose Bretons. Warrior playing chars will be divided between Orcs and Redguards, while Sneaky types most likely won't choose for Orcs.

Please tell me i am wrong on this, or that my logic is flawed.

discuss away my fellow cave dwellers.

I do think you're right on this one. It has been proven in many an MMO, or any other game, that humans are the most popular race choice. Familiarity and simplicity is most likely the reason for that. But what is wrong with the Daggerfall Covenenant being Breton heavy?

When you think about it, this makes the most sense. Not only, as far as I know, are the Bretons more numerous than the Orcs and Redguards, but they also have stronger national feeling and oaths to their liege. I'm not questioning the loyalty of an Orc or Redguard, but these two races are known for not always reaching consensus and more often than not they part ways. tl;dr: Many Orcs and Redguards are travellers, men-for-hire or bandits - or at least more likely to take up such a profession than a Breton.

I think it is sad that no one wants to play the interesting role of an Orc or Redguard, but that is just how it must be. And I'm sure there will be plenty of Battle-mages walking around, both half-human, human and orcish alike.

I may be the first to respond, but I am no cave dweller. I can assure you.

Actually, the Bretons have one of the most heavily fragmented histories among the races. There are dozens of individual kingdoms within High Rock, all conspiring against and warring each other all the time. Practically every noble believed that they deserved sovereignty. High Rock didn't attain any sort of unity until at the ending of TES II: Daggerfall, when the Warp in the West occured, which was Bethesda trying to canonize all the possible endings of Daggerfall. Which hasn't occured yet in TES: O.

Until then, pretty much the only times the Breton nobles set aside there differences and banded together for a unified cause, was when it was time for them and the Redguards to partake in their favored and cherished pasttime of gang banging the Orcs at Orsinium and razing it to the ground every few centuries. Every single time the Orcs built a new Orsinium, the Bretons and Redguards would come along, siege it then raze it.

Uhm i will play a "Breton" without any use of magic, in fact i dislike it very much! Bretons can be good warriors just like any other race...

This is quite true, Korbu: My fault for forgetting when Elder Scrolls: Online actually takes place. I'm glad you reminded me!

But my statement about the Bretons having a larger populace is still true; correct me if I'm wrong on that subject too, though. (I love being corrected, oddly enough.)

Since when did the covenant become that popular, i thought the majority favoured the Northern most races as well as the Elves?

It's only fitting, in lore the Bretons are the most numerous race of the Covenant.

The most recent TF survey has yet to give us a faction breakdown, but looking at the last one, it's pretty clear that Bretons will constitute about half of the population. Class choice is far more balanced though.

Involves a detailed description of how I'm going to go medieval on the ass of every non-DC person in the game.
