So about illusion magic

Post » Thu Oct 24, 2013 1:32 pm

I'm a big fan of the illusion magic school and can't help but wonder what kind of spells will be available. Though it kinda struck me that spells like calm and fear, which are made to directly influence NPC's will most likely be hard to implement in PvP, if not simply impossible if they're supposed to do what they have in the single player TES games. Does anyone have any information regarding mechanics? Will it simply be some form of CC? I can't imagine them getting rid of it since those spells are the characteristic spells when you're a starter illusionist.

It will most likely be relegated to CC. It's the only real way to balance it, though. We don't really have followers, and pacify would probably just be another CC.

I know fear is already in, although I'm not sure how it works. Also, invisibility.

Hmm, kinda expecting it to be CC then. Hope the effects from the spell effects will be diverse and effective though. I'd like to see a full illusion build to be viable seeing as we only have 6 active slots to spend.

Anyway, back to the drawing board once again. Thx for the reply

I suppose the Nightblade has some skills that would fall into the Illusion school.

Blur sounds like Sanctuary from Morrowind.

Shadow Cloak is obviously Invisibility

Aspect of Terror causes fear, but I have no idea how that will work in PvP

Vampires might have Illusion skills in their skill line, too. Hopefully they will add more Illusion-centered skill lines in the future.

Yeah I still need to kinda wrap my head around the fact that all the spells are in completely different skilltrees, atleast till now. I'm hoping that at some point you get dedicated skill trees to specific magic schools. Mainly because I have no intention of going nightblade, already set my sights on sorcerer.

Well, there is Dark Magic for sorcerers.

However be aware that you can be a Nightblade caster. In fact that's what I'm gonna be :D. All magic, no silly melee weapons.

But I do not think they'll be releasing trees for specific magic schools. From what I saw in the beta is that there are 5 sub-divisions; weapon, guild, racial, class, armor.

However I have from a pretty valid source other trees which don't seem to fit into any of those categories so I guess it is up in the air.

Would you mind if I asked what exactly about illusion you like/want?

I'm aiming for a heavy cc/controller kind of caster. In my experience big zerg groups are generally all dmg ori?ntated and I aim to be the one to keep enemies stuck so they can do so. EDIT do the dmg that is ;)
