Which race is best for Smithing?

Post » Sat Oct 26, 2013 3:34 pm

Orcs i suppose. But part of me would rather be a nord due to the ease of self insertion. Im just afraid that one race will have an advantage over the other. Lets say when you start as an orc, you have access to better materials than other provinces.

Thoughts? I'm going full smithing at the expense of actual combat when the game comes out. (Weapon smith and armor smith)

Umm...

They should all be pretty much the same, unless you mean lore-wise, which in that case we should be calling some of the lore folk over here...

I would assume it follows typical MMO-style, and has better ore as you go up to areas made for higher levels, rather than have ore be location based.

Also no races offer any advantage to professions. Pick who you want! =) Racials are all in-combat advantages (with some of course applying to some combat neutral stuff like faster sprinting).

Also I'm not sure if you can level off of smithing as opposed to combat in the game =\ so you may have to go battle-smith on the monsters so you can have access to higher level ore. Unless you learn to merchant very well and sell weapons/armor at a markup which you can then use to buy ore and repeat...but it seems as if buying/selling will be significantly difficult in the game so be wary of that.

According to this article: http://tamrielfoundry.com/2013/09/pax-skill-overview/
All races will get one skill that levels faster than the others. Dual wield, two-handed and restoration staff are all covered within the EP. Its safe to theorize that Orsimer will get one of the Armour skills, probably Heavy.
Don't think any race will get crafting bonuses though, unless things change. And hey, a change is rumored to be in the works, so who knows.
Also, funnily enough, found this while on TF: http://tamrielfoundry.com/2013/09/orsimer-racial-profile/

Well since smithing is mostly metal, I'd assume you'll be a heavy armor melee weapon type of character, right?

If so then...

Will you be using a 2H or a 1H? If not 2H, Orc will probably be better as they've good for heavy armor. If 2H, it's still a draw as Nords specialize in 2H. But even those "specializations" aren't anything massive, just XP boosts.

So choose what you want, basically =)

I can pretty confidently say that there is no current Orc racial that benefits smithing. I haven't heard of any possible changes to that...would like a source as well!

Just going by dev interviews, they've considered making them cost skill points. Beyond that, nothing has been said.

it would be interesting to get bonuses to factional crafts

ie, Orcs crafting orcish factional armor and weapons +10% stats or armor level etc.

etc etc

but i can assume and expect that all races are equal when it comes to crafting.

look up this book in google http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:The_Armorer type oblivon or elder scrolls after it, its a good read for would be smiths. i cant add a working hyperlink for some reason

Orcs have the most smiths per 100 population
Dunmer smiths do extensive work with ebony which is one of the hardest metals to work with
Most refrenses of Smiths making Daedric weapons/armor is by/for imperials
The most amazing/destructive blades were most likely made by Redguards
Nords are renowned for making masterworks out of common steel
because of such mixed lore i am guessing no one will get a significant boost to smithing, because everyone can say they are the best and point to a book or npc statement. If they do give anybody a small bonus my money is on orcs and nords.

No class is better than another at a certain craft. Just so you know Smithing in this game was broken down into 2 completely different crafts.... Weapon Smith and Armor Smith
