Trying to decide what class I should play when eso comes out and I would appreciate some advice or opinion.

You can paly any class and do whatever you want. You can play a Dragonknight, the closest thing to a warrior) and play it like a mage (actually it has an entire line for that sort of thing) for example. You can play a Sorc, and play like an assassin.

You never asked a question.

We can't make this choice for you, play whatever you like most.

We cannot answer your question, only you know what kind of character you want to play.

Whichever you find to be the most fun. And the only person that can determine that, is you.

The best recourse, IMO, is to boil it down to the class-specific skills... that is, if you want to have dragon spines pop out your back and give you armor, then you HAVE to be a Dragon Knight... if you want to summon a Clannfear pet, you HAVE to be a Sorcerer.... if you want to throw spears of light and heal without a Restoration staff, then you HAVE to be a Templar...

Everything else is entirely mutable. You could wield a two handed sword or a bow or twin daggers or a destruction staff.... you could wear robes or you could wear leather armor or you could wear massive heavy plate... or you could wear leather gloves and boots, a heavy plate chestguard, light cloth leggins and a hood....

The ONLY real determining faction in which class to pick is which class-specific ability you want to have.

Well, your poll should probably have the actual classes in it then.

Archer isn't a class..warrior isn't a class..maybe do some research and look at the actual classes before deciding or asking?

I think he asks what "traditional" class template he wants to play, and not specifically the classes that is in the game. That said, it's hard to say, if you like them all equally, throw a dice or something.

If that is true, then he s missing the Cleric/Priest and Paladin Template.

Wooow. Attention seeking 'read my mind' thread is bad enough, but not even using the actual class names? I smell a lock coming.

Yikes guys don't attack the guy O_o

He's just asking for class advice...

OP make your choices a lot more varied, or a lot more narrow. Are you asking for a melee/range/magic comparison? If so, use that. Are you asking for basic class templates?

Then use Ranger/Mage/Warrior/Thief/Paladin/Priest/Warlock/Hunter/Illusionist/Athelete...I think I've potentially missed a few others but that's a solid start IMO.

If you want to know what kind of gameplay to prefer, that's too varied for a poll. Try to pick a starting point for a discussion and work your way from there.

I want to play a bard. sadly mmos have gotten rid of traditional group mechanics and we have watered down group mechanics to simplify the balancing of classes.

umm, no, Group mechanics are alive and well, it is more that so few people care about bards that they tend to be looked over when looking for classes to add to a game. The only games I can think of that actually have bards are Final fantasy, D&D, and LOTRO. Even then, LOTRO is one game, and Bards are not one of the basic classes from FF.

Plus, Bards (at least the way you are talking about) have never really been a part of the Elder scrolls lore. The "Bard" Class in ES lore is an illusionist with Light armor and a light weapon, which you CAN play in ESO, at least to some extent.

You can definitely play a support role in ESO.

Who knows, maybe we can join the Bard's guild and learn some skills?

Maybe he only listed those he potentially want to play, priest might not be his cup of tea.

@OP Melee Rogue is probably your best bet for PvP/Single target, while Sorcerer has some insane utility and AoE.
