Good video game recording software?

Post » Thu Oct 31, 2013 8:21 am

I want to record some gameplay while I play games like Morrowind, Oblivion, and World of Warcraft.

I need it to be: CPU light, not heavy and it won't drag my FPS down too much

Able to record in HD preferably 1920x1080 resolution

Without a water mark

Any suggestions? I'm willing to pay as long as the product is actually very good. I'm on Windows 8.

I used Bandicam but IDK about specs.

My max res on my old-ish moniter was 1680x1050

I think I payed like 40 dollars for it on the website. It's been a while.

Try that first.

Then try Bandicam/Dxtory/Fraps. Those one aren't free but have trials. Fraps is the weakest of the three but some games it seems to run well with where the other two fail.

MSI Afterburner is free and completely hassle-free. Records both video and sound without a watermark.

I recommend Fraps, but if you have an Nvidia Kepler based GPU, you could try out http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2013/10/18/shadowplay/

Thanks, I wasn't aware of this. My GTX670 qualifies. I might give it a go.

I personally like it, but my needs are simple. I don't stream, for example, and I'm fine with just "full screen" or "half-size" recording options.

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess some don't like it because it does svck your frame rate. If your rig doesn't play the game at a consistent 50-60fps+, Fraps can/may drop your fps by 15-20fps. So if the game normally runs at 30ish fps, you can guess how that works out. Also, it creates truly ginormous files at high resolution full-screen recording of newer 3d games (no idea if other programs are better at this) and is a pretty basic program (not tons of recording options, for those who like tons of options).
