Since it's a Chinese production i didn't pay much attention but look on the video. Open PvP world with dropping items on death. Judge be yourself
edit:
And some gameplay /watch?v=3EnhoUJT4ns

That looks really cool, i like the monsters and characters. Eh, shame i haven't got any time for MMO's .
Black Desert is a very differen't game aimed at a differen't audience. Since we don't even know if its coming to the west at all, no I doubt it will be a "rival". If your looking for a rival, look to Wildstar. Both games are high profile themepark mmos possibly launching around the same time.
I find Wildstar too plastic for me. You know, i really like ESO but 2 thing don't give me peace. It's Bordered world with scheme to play and no real death penalties
A friend of mine plays the beta for black desert atm. What he told me is that the gameplay is relatively slick and the graphics looks great, but other then that the game doesn't have a lot going for it. Inb4 FF14 ARR all over again, except this time you got some PvP options.
All I need to hear to never go near it. Just utterly not my thing.
MMOs are enough of a time sink without adding gratuitous maschism & frequent "gotta start over" due to griefers/sociopaths entertaining themselves by making others miserable.
(edit: and really, are PvE MMOs and uber-PvP MMOs really "rivals" with each other? They kind of target different audiences, I'd think.)
Wildstar wont even come close to ESO. Damn that game looks so cheesy. I would have expected much better from NCSoft, but then again after its last couple MMO's maybe its all they can make.
