After checking out http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1476106-a-proposition-pure-survival-horror-mode/ I just had to make this. I would love to see something like DonHack suggested and other unlockable modes for alternate challenges, these are the things that really sell it to me to want to play through the game more than once. I remember Devil May Cry having a couple of harder modes becoming available once you complete it's predecessor and it really got me hooked. Remember the Silent Hill Chainsaw/Samurai Sword/sixy Beam and Resident Evil's Gatling Gun/Rocket Launcher unlocks? Unlockables and extra challenges really make a good game in my opinion...but of course I don't need to tell bethesda that , so with that in mind I would like to make a couple of suggestions (could even be implemented into updates)
- Nightmare Mode - complete Hard or Normal Mode
- Pure Survival Mode - the OP proposal, unlocked the same way as above and only available in Hard and Nightmare Mode
- Hell Mode - You crumble like a wet biscuit when any monster hits, with very low health all the way and with reduced ammo/health pickups.
- Unlockable Weapons - Complete the game in a target time or without saving and the next playthrough a special weapon can be found in an appropriate location
- Unlockable Characters - I don't know of any other NPCs yet for this but maybe an option to play as them as an alternate skin and voice, or even a new story mini-game - start in a new location and do a quest for them which takes place in a location further into the game, interacts with the original character for the main story, then carries on to complete their quest...or dies depending on how they fit in.
- Unlockable Costumes - have one or two for doing a playthrough on any difficulty, then more elaborate ones for my proposed (or similar) modes.
- Unlockable Creature Skins - same as above, but gives certain enemies a different, maybe more horrific aesthetic
- Money and Shop - Maybe have money pickups in-game or some alternative which can be used to buy things at a store - could be used to access unlockables - if an in-game one is too much to ask do it as a UI accessible in the main menu
- Hidden Relics with Gallery - either as hidden pickups in-game or unlocked through completing certain challenges, such as kill 100 of a certain type of creatures to unlock a statuette or top trumps card viewable in a gallery
- Arena Mode - Choose a location, a selection of a few large room 'arenas' and take on waves of enemies to unlock a prize at the end
- Survival Mode - A bit like Arena Mode but more complex locations with hallways and rooms, fully accessible for player and enemy, and fight until you die! Reach a certain number of kills to unlock goodies.
This is a bit of food for thought for bethesda, i'm not asking to make them all possible but it would be great to see even a few of these suggestions to be considered as it would no doubt get people more interested in the game through getting as much playability as possible, and of course we all love to see we've unlocked something special for set challenges
Feel free to respond with further suggestions, these are all I can come up with right now which are all inspired by the best survival horrors I played so far, and perhaps others can add to this.
