new at skyrim just started and haveing problems with first lessons. tried fear spell casting and saying fearspell not working. any help would be great.

Are you at Faralda? If so target the rune that looks like an "eye".

You're posting this at the wrong section. You should go to the Skyrim forums. Anyway, assuming you're talking about the first quest of the Winterhold College quest line, maybe your magicka isn't enough, try a potion that fortifies your magicka points.
