How many people will play ESO ?!

Post » Fri Nov 15, 2013 2:35 am

I heard like approx. 3 mill people sign for beta..I wonder how many people will play this game. This game will get millions of players or we will have more or less than 400-500k people playing when the game will come ,and after 3-4 months even less?

I remember in many games( AOC ,Warhammer,Rift,SWTOR, etc) they advertise and talk about huge amount of players ,the expectation from the developers where like millions ,but after 2-3 months the real numbers was like 300-400k players...at max.

Can we expect the unexpected ...from 3 mill beta sings ,to actual have 200-300k active players ?!

If they will have 200-300K subscribers the game will do good. However, I Think they will have more myself, since skyrim sold so good.

I Think 2 miljon subscribers first year wont be all that far off, but thats my speculations ofc...

I am going to put a bid in for around a million people. Once the big initial rush is through the door I think it will settle around this number. Course I could be wrong. Either way, there really is no doubt in my mind that this game is going to be a success. Unless they completely screw it up and have been lying to us this whole time. Which could happen. I"m going to remain positively optimistic though until proven otherwise.

I can say in Rift at begin where like 600-700k and after 1 year more or less than 200k but the world was almost empty like no one playing the game.. and they even begin to close some servers.

I think a 300k subscribers wont be so good ,of course the game will live because of the income , but it wont be a succes. If you ask me ,a success mmo need to have at least 800k active subscribers.

I wish to see that ESO will have more than 800k, but even if at begin we will have so much players , after 1 year many will leave. They need to update fast the content and bring many new things for pve and pvp in the time after release.. if devs wana keep the players

No one can say.

But I think that games where the developers and artists are allowed to spend a lot of time creating detailed and immersive worlds, and spend a lot of time making sure things are done right and working right, that those types of games will do the best.

Also paying attention to what your players want can also be a wise thing as well.... well I personally feel that there was a moment in time where Guild Wars 2 had a large thriving population, and the population mainly wanted more World vs World content because the siege weapons and everything made it new and exciting. And I believe that patch after patch of no new World vs World content, and basically WvWvW just basically being put on the back burner, really hurt that game in the long run.

That is just an opinion of mine based off of being there at its launch and playing it for a good while afterwards, making a comparison from the way it was then to now.

This is true, However, Rift did not have a fan base like TES has, and by looking at the sales of Skyrim, 2 miljon Subs the first 12 months should not be all that hard to make.

Lets say 200-300K of the subs are MMO players that want to test the game, then it would only be 1.7-1.8 miljon TES fans that needs to sub. I honestly Think they will make that =)

It might start out at around 1-2 mil but after oeople realize it is not skyrim online and it was not what people were expecting (even if it is still a great game) it will go down to about 500k.

Any gameplay I've seen looks like Skyrim online...

Maybe the quest structure/ some skill systems might be different, however it looks like there are still big fantastic worlds to explore, dungeons to delve, fierce monsters to combat...

ALL IN FIRST PERSON BABY!

So that point right there ^^^ lets just say that's a real big deal for sooooooooo many people, it's not even funny. Anyone who is going to shell out the clams to subscribe probably isn't the hit it n' quit it crowd nearly as much.

Probably mostly people who like TES, AvAvA pvp, and MMO's in general.

The world looks big. It looks like it "feels" like Skyrim, which by the way if you haven't read is pretty much how most of the reviewers who got a hands on described it.

((combat, enemies, ui aesthetics, lore))

I don't know how much more people expect it to be like Skyrim Online...

I mean I get it, maybe people who like to just kill every [censored] NPC in sight and loot everything will be a disappointed, but could I get a show of hands for people who play for this reason primarily? Anybody? Anybody? Beuler? Beuler?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd be down for 1 mil subs
This might sound overly optimistic, but I think 5 million is within reach.
IF this game has any exploration type (Or just not sit there) endgame then i can see it surviving, there were alot of hopefulls in TOR after a month or two of waiting on the fleet stations literally the same place everyday doing the exact same thing eventually they gave up.
That being said i'm glad the keep thing is going to be there at least people won't be huddled around an auction house doing nothing but that day in and out.
A lot of people are gonna probably quit the game in a month or two just because some people play from the moment they wake up to the moment they sleep, play the game to level as fast as possible and get the best stuff as fast as possible and expect the game to last years not really gonna happen. But if there is alot of customization options (From what we wear to where we live) in the game, it gives people stuff to do and kill time in a good way.
Also you'll have the people on that complain about it not being exactly like skyrim or the graphics aren't as good as skyrim or even the people who complain about the game not playing like other mmo's or even not as many RP options. It's hard to please everyone I hope they can keep the server full with the MEGA server (One server how many instances???) as long as there is 500k subs i'll be happy but im hoping it'll last longer than half a year
I'm thinking 7-8 million boxes sold in the first 3 months with 5 million subscribing.
They are only going to build on the success of Skyrim and that game sold 7 million boxes in the first week.
It's not about how many players will buy eso and subscribe the first two months. What matters is how the game will do in a bigger period of time (6 months/year).
Just to remind the madness when SWTOR launched. SO many servers, and all had a minimum queue of 3 hours in peak times, 15 mins any other time. Pretty much the whole MMO playerbase was playing SWTOR.
3 months later, they had lost more than 70% of that playerbase. 1 Year later the game was forced to go F2P. At the moment, it is.. well I wouldn't say dead, but close to average playerbase.
So yes, there will be insane numbers on ESO the first days, but will it survive over time?
If they put out DLC sized content packs every 4-6 weeks?
Yes.
BIG mistake.
Quality>>>>Quantity.
Pretty much no end game = no playerbase (at least not big one)
some examples
GW2 has new stuff every month, but the game itself is boring and repetitive.
Lotro has it's 5th expansion coming out in 4 days, and the game is now worse than ever, with pretty much every server being a ghost-town.
I think you missed the part of my post that said "DLC sized" which is an indication of quality. GW2 puts out small patches frequently. This game is going to put out large updates frequently.
Also not sure why you're saying no endgame...? Are you talking about this game? Perhaps you haven't read much about it yet?
There is tons of endgame in ESO. There are 6 master dungeons at launch. There is the entire 50+ and 50++ content, which is basically two more leveling experiences. Then there is the Alliance War, the crux of the endgame. This will keep people like me busy for years upon years, even without anything else.
On top of all that, we know we will be getting Adventure Zones. Basically the ESO equivalent of raids.
Lastly, from what we've heard so far, the DLC updates are going to be substantial (ie. good quality.) They've talked about the first DLC adding the Thieves Guild (with accompanying skills and an entire quest line), the Dark Brotherhood (with its own quests/skills), and a crime system (an entire new game system.)
I'd say that'll keep people satisfied, if they execute it.
DLC sized update does not mean end game.
By no end game I mean that if ESo does not have proper end game, it won't survive.
DLC sized updates, could mean just a story line, along withsome side quests. Most players will finish such content in 2 days.
