X: Rebirth Thread 2

Post » Sun Nov 17, 2013 8:24 pm

For the continued discussion of the game.

Edit

Star Citizen has dozens and dozens of workers. I think they have 60+ team and growing. Not to mention they can outsource some of the work to others. Some of which we have now and is top notch. So yea.... I have no idea where you got 8 from. Hahaha. Right now they have a competition going on 75 teams of 4 competing for 10k each member, a suite of software for game design, and having their ship added to the game. And probably job offers. They now have multiple offices. I think one in Europe? Maybe and definitely one in the states somewhere.

Edit

YARRR I'm hijacking your thread Egosoft. Dread Pirate Roberts claims this in the name of Star Citizen. I jest of course. All space sim games should be welcome here.

Edit2

They have like a 4 man team alone dedicated to producing Wingman's Hangar the weekly Star Citizen web show.

Damn! I was writing a reply when I got an error message. The thread was closed. Anyways, I was updating my last reply saying that I just saw a video where Chris Roberts explains the SC flight physics. I like his take on space flying. Apparently, the flying does have flight simulation but the ship's "computer" will be doing automated work for the pilot, so that way the player won't be bother micromanaging the thrusters. So, in the end, the ship will have similar flight behavior as a jet fighter. I like that. The cool thing is that if one thruster is destroyed, then the ship's movement will be altered accordingly. At least that's how I understood it in this video:

Ah now we get to the Xi'an. They use a strange flight system where they have 4 thruster groups. One on each side and they are over sized. So the ship can change almost any direction instantly. Their scout is the Quark which is incidentally one of my nicknames in real life so naturally my friends are bugging me about it. The Xi'an ship design is vertical and as are its capital class ships. The Banu will have their own engine system unique to them. So how they fly or what is different isn't known. The Vanduul have a unique fighter with a ramming blade. They seem to mass produce scythes and send them at the enemy in hordes well in excess of 3 to 1. The ship only has light shielding but is one of the fastest fighters and packs a decent punch. On top of that it can ram into you.

Also in the Hornet trailer. You see an 300i being shot to pieces and slowly falling to pieces. It was said this was all done in game. Earlier before the trailer came out they said they were having trouble getting the hit based location damage to take effect. Well it was obviously solved. So ships will probably even fall apart piece by piece as they get blown up.

Edit

The video gives a good gist of it, but he personally wrote a post explaining in more detail how it would work.

Looks like the rumors have merit about X=Rebirth going to Consoles, couple of peeps have decompiled the CAT files and found references for shaders on 360 and PS3

Ahahhaaha it all makes sense, all the new hopefuls and fans are beta testers and crowd funding source.
