The Spike VGX Awards Thread

Post » Wed Nov 20, 2013 3:27 pm

Hey, guys! I dislike the Spike TV video game awards!

But I do enjoy watching the show. Why? Games are announced, every year, that I want to buy. Skyrim, for example, was announced on the 2010 show, and we're due for a Fallout 4 announcement pretty soon! The show has in the past been great for announcements, but the awards themselves are not given out by people who know what they are talking about, and many notable titles are always left out of the nominations. There are also guests that have nothing to do with video games. Its weirdly mainstream for a game awards show.

This year they've renamed it the VGX, from VGAs. 'A' used to stand for awards, 'x' may stand for xylophone, but I can't think of any other words... The new name comes with a change in format. The show will now feature developer interviews, as well as in depth game demos. These features sound promising.

From their website:

"TUNE-IN SATURDAY DECEMBER 7 AT 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT

You can watch it through live streams across Xbox One, Xbox 360?, PlayStation?3 (PS3?), Twitch, iOS and Android devices, and available globally on VGXLIVE.com, Hulu, Yahoo Screen, the Yahoo Screen app and Viacom properties Spike.com, ComedyCentral.com MTV.com, MTV2.com, BET.com and GameTrailers.com. VGX will be live streamed for three-hours on Saturday, December 7, beginning at 6:00 PM ET / 3:00 PM PT. Spike TV will also air highlights of the show as "VGX Replay" on Monday, December 9 at midnight."

GTA V will undoubtedly win GotY given that everyone else in the world think it's the best thing to ever happen in video games.

I don't know. I thought so while playing it but since I beat the main story line I haven't wanted to touch the game. I have not played the other nominated games but I'm guessing that The Last of Us is at least a close second among fans.

nvm.

GTA V will most likely win GotY and every other category it's in. I do like that Kendrick Lamar's A.D.H.D is in it, great song.

I say "Boooo!" to almost all of those nominations. Except for The Last of Us and a few others. Also, why do they bother having a "best developer" award if it's the same devs who made the nominated games?

I mostly agree, though in some cases there are studios that do a ton within a single year. 2012 was a large year for gamesas, for instance. But other devs like EA put out many games each year, and they seem to never be nominated.

What nominations would you replace them with?

Hmm, I'd put Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance up there. I haven't played Wonderful 101 because I don't own a Wii U but I've seen enough stuff about that game to say it can easily replace GTAV or Bioshock Infinite.

I just realized that I haven't played many games that came out in 2013, so I can't find a replacement for all of them. But I do believe there are plenty of better games out there, since I don't think most of the current ones are all that great to begin with.

I think that the best Xbox/Playstation/PC games categories should be limited to exclusives. It's stupid to have the same games in multiple categories like that.

Yeah, I came in here thinking that FO4 had been announced. Seems like it's just speculation at this stage. Oh well, will check back later.

This is Bethesda we're talking about. Until we see an official trailer or Tod Howard, we know its just speculation.
