Basicly, what is your favorite type of TV show? There's 4 main ones that I know of on the top of my head... They Continuation, Story Arc climix, and Episode Base... If ye' don't know, then I'll explain each one for ya.
1. Continuation - Basicly, a Constant Story. Every single episode are all connected together in '1 2 3 order' and in order to even get into the show, you pretty much have to watch it from the beginning... Otherwise, you can get EXTREMELY confused on wtf is going on. These shows do something have a 'story arc' but the main thing that makes these shows different from the next type is that the story arcs truly don't have a climix and the show basicly continues onward... Reason being once there is a climix, the show is over... The show is only ONE big long constant story, after all... So once it ends, the show is done! I rarely watch Continuation shows but one I do watch and know of is "Once Upon a Time".
2. Story Arc climix - Basicly, a story of going from one chapter of life to another. These shows tend to be similar to "Episode Base" but the big different in these shows is there are pieces of a major story in each episode that all will connect together later on in the climix of a Story Arc. Most of the time, people don't even recognize these pieces until much later! Another big thing about these shows is that the climix of one story arc will always open to MANY possibilities of another story arc starting in the show's next episode (But at the same time, can end the show there with no 'bad' loose ends)... The most famous Story Arc climix show I can think of right now is "Doctor Who" where each episode did had its own little story but at the same time, build up a much major story that gets the audience interested and wonder how that major story will climix. Another show that does this is "Supernatural"... Heck, I can even name the major story arcs in that show with the first one being the 'Yellow Eyed Demon' arc, which ended in Season 2 finale... These are, personally, my favorite shows and are the shows I mostly watch. Both my favorite live action (Live action is the proper term, right?) and favorite cartoon shows are within this type.
3. Episode Base - Basicly, a bunch of random short stories base around the same characters+world. These shows are all base around 'episode story' to 'episode story' shows where there is really no story arc at all... The only major story changes that ever happened in these shows would probably be the removal or add-on of characters... Otherwise, the show is quite static and most characters rarely, if ever, develop and change things. Best examples of Episode Base shows would be a good majority of cartoons actually, both child and advlt. Family Guy could easily be considered in this area, for example... (Though I could be wrong since I rarely watch Family Guy but from my experience, nothing ever changes except the removal of one character)... Most of the time, these shows are only good for their comedy, which basicly the only good thing these types of shows are good for! I normally only watch these shows when I have nothing else to watch, ha!
4. Lifely Shows - I decided to put together the last group of shows into one type... These are basicly Game, History, Learning, etc shows that are base of life related events and are either made for 'bit of fun' or to teach the watches something. Basicly stuff like "AFV", "Jeopardy", "Wipe out", News, History Channel, etc... I think you get the idea, right? I personally like a few game shows, like "Wipe Out", and do like to watch history related shows to learn... But otherwise, they are not my favorite type and only watch when I feel it.
