X-Box One requires a day-one patch

Post » Thu Nov 21, 2013 11:33 am

Suprised there's no topic on this that I could find. After back tracking on all their "always online" gubbins, if you buy an Xbox One, you're still going to need a connection if you wanna play games on your video game console.

Link (on a mobile so dunno if it'll be an actual link):

Thoughts?

All 3 consoles have had a day 1 patch. Seems to be the norm nowadays for anything, console or software.

It's normal these days. From the review I saw on Yahoo, it will take 30 to 60 minutes after you get your console unpacked and connected up to be able to play a game. First you have to get the patch, then you have to set up the Kinect, then you have to install the game, then you have to sign in if the game requires it, then maybe you can play.

So, hopefully, you have a 360 laying around to keep you entertained while your Xbox1 is being initialized.

Oh I see. I didn't recall a patch when I got my Xbox 360 but that was... 6 years ago so who knows.

Is there any reasoning behind day-one patches? Is it like a verification thing they do?

Out of the box, the Xbox One will require the Kinect and internet to run. At least part of the initial update is to reverse those requirements. It would be prudent to watch reviews to see what happens after the update. Will there be nag screens when the One is off line? When the Kinect isn't Kinected? How will games react to their absence?

Check out the thread Xbox One What is it all about ? Because this post will be quickly derailed after your inital point is ignored , Not to hijack your posters or anything , The end result is that no one would champion the Xbox One . Or the PS4 for that matter. I always thought that these consoles run on electricity but the folks on that thread say they run on something else.

Didn't think to look there. I never meant for this thread to be a bash-fest of the console. I was curious what the patch was all about and it didn't occur to me that this was pretty standard now.

I suppose it can even be locked.

Don't worry, it's a good question. I wanted to know more about the next generation of consoles too. There has already been some good info right here. I just wanted to reference the old thread for it's content. and because I'm a attention [censored]
