What class should I take?

Post » Thu Nov 21, 2013 1:10 pm

In Skyrim there was no concept of classes however in Elder Scrolls Online there appears to be Dragonknight, Templar, Sorcerer, Warden, and Nightblade. I would like to recreate as close as possible my Skyrim character who was a Altmer stealth focused archer who summoned Daedric minions. The stealth and archer aspects are more like the rogue class yet the Daedric Summoning fall squarely in the Sorcerer class...

Am I going to be able to recreate my Skyrim character more or less in Elder Scrolls Online or am I going to have to pick between the Rogue or Sorcerer classes?

You'll have to pick. Only things that classes share are weapon skills, but certain classes will be much better with certain weapons. For instance, a sorcerer running around with a two handed sword will probably get stomped pretty easily.

Choose a Sorcerer though. They're gonna be very OP for quite some time, considering it'll take the devs months to get to class balance stuff because of typical MMO launch issues. Enjoy your several months of OP-ness

There is no warden class, and you may want to go to the site of http://tamrielfoundry.com/. They have a list of all class abilities, Weapon abilities and some more stuff.

As to your playstyle, I also think sorcerer will be more in your street. You can summon with sorcerer and use any weapon and armor combination you like.

does class choice effect anything other than skills? starting or max attributes? how do we level attributes? what about magic stamina and health? does the class selection effect any of this stuff or is it just the skill line thats different?

Also bear in mind there CAN be no practical difference between a sorcerer with a two handed sword and a dragon knight with a two handed sword. If neither class uses class-specific abilities, there is NO difference between them other than whatever ~passive~ class/race benefits they might have.

I plan to make a Templar character who wears light armor and uses a two-handed sword --- won't be as durable as someone in heavy armor (even a sorcerer) but the light armor will let me use more magicka-powered abilities than someone in heavy armor could use.

If you want to summon Daedra, the Sorcerer is the class you want... but if they don't have to be Daedra, I believe they have mentioned that the Nightblade can summon "shadows" or something like that, for a limited time. I don't think they are persistent pets like the Sorcerer's Daedra, but they may be sufficient to preserve your character concept.

Of course, a Sorcerer CAN summon persistent Daedra pets AND sneak around AND shoot a bow just exactly as well as a Nightblade. The Nightblade might have better from-Stealth attacks, and other class-specific benefits, but the base fact of "sneaky archer" can be ANY class.

i just asked this question in another topic, guess i should of come here first. its confirmed that the one and only difference is available skill line? is thats true then there will be so many combos i can come up with. it will be so fun trying out different things. i was worried that dragonknights would always be stronger even if they never used a single DK skill. this way its really all about pick what race/class/weapon/armor skill line i want

I do understand your point about initial unbalance, unfortunately, but why are you placing bets on Sorcerer's in particular?

If pets are any precedent the pet AI will be a nuisance to deal with and other classes have just as much CC. The damage reduction will be great but we all know how a good defense is a good offense.

The damage tree seems very mundane.

The CC tree is the only one I can say has a lot of capabilities but not a lot more than other class trees.

Plus, I have a feeling that just like...every other TES game....and too many MMOs....stealth will be insanely OP, especially in single-play, so boosting its effectiveness would only serve to make a person even more OP.

I say this because I originally did want to go Sorc but the class seems really unappealing and overall the abilities flavor text make them "feel" weak in my head.

No thats not accurate at all. First classes share far more the just weapon skills. There are also armor skill, guild skills and pretty much every other skill line thats not a base class line. Second if you train with a weapon and spend points in its skill line you'll be just as good with it as any other class.

Bottom line stop spreading false info. You're at the point where it should be actionable by the admins IMO.

Sounds like a Bow using Sorcerer would be what you might want to try. You'd also probably want to use a mix of light and medium armor. Light for magicka stats and class skills and medium for stamina and Bow skills.

But yes more or less you will be able to build that type of class in ESO. Based on everything they have told use we can safely state that.

Lol at this thread, one post by NO_WALKING and the rest is all damage control from there.

To OP: You'll have to focus your flavor...

If you want more focus on summons, I would go Sorcerer.

If you want more focus on stealth, I would go Nightblade.

And if summons are what you are interested there are a couple non-sorcerer paths...

Nightblade, as stated has some kind of summon shade.

Also Dunmer have a summon ancestral guardian,

And I wouldn't be surprised if the Wood Elves got some kind of naturey style summon, like in Skyrim.

I think that if Deadra Summoning is really important though I would go for the Sorcerer Class. You should be able to pick and choose enough other things to *help* out with stealth, and the additional companions would certainly be of service.

Stats level up naturally at an even rate for all classes. Additionally at every level-up you get to distrubte a point to either Health, Stam, or Magic. Class choice has no bearing on this. So you will get better at all those things, but specialize however you please.

But yes just active and passive abilities are the only defining aspects of class. (At least that have been released so far...)

So if I did play as a Sorcerer how good/bad would my stealth abilities be? Could I shoot my bow from range while my pet tanked and remain invisible? How superior is rogue steath over sorcerer stealth?

Nightblades have An invisibility spell and have some passives to help with stealth, though we do not know how good those passives are at the moment. You only remain hidden as long as you have stamina (Which drains if you are moving in Stealth)
