Any one else irratated by games being released in episodes

Ive noticed that in the last five years there seem to be an ever increasing number of games that are released chapter at a time, rather than a finished product all at once. So far this hasn't really effected me as the games i tend to play are strategy, sandbox, or RPG's. However, i do watch let's play videos on youtube of people playing linear story driven games in order to view some of the better story telling games out there.

Personally It irratates me, i don't even watch tv shows episode at a time, either i watch the whole season at once or i don't watch it at all. I can't stand waiting weeks or months to see the resolution to a cliff hangar, that just is not an experience i enjoy.

kind of loosing track of my original thought, but even though quite a lot of video games that are mostly just a story line are very much akin to a television show (only obviously interactive) Is it really necessary to pump them out in episodic form?

I am aware that with that process of releasing the media you get acess sooner but not complete. like i said above, i'd rather wait a year to consume the media all at once, rather than getting broken up pieces released in weekly intervals alot sooner.

If it's a good game it doesn't bother me at all. Keeps me interested knowing more content for the game I like is releasing soon, compared to waiting years for another entry. We can only hope more developers follow suit.

you see, for me it would actually frustrate me if the game was good, but released in episodic form. If it was bad i could just forget about it and be dissapointed in spending $15 for a season pass or what ever.

However if it is good then i won't stop thinking about it until i get the conclusion, and waiting months between episodes would drive me mad.

I don't really care, unless they stop in the middle of it and don't finish the later episodes. But that's no different than making game 1 and end it with a cliffhanger and never make game 2, so it's not exclusive to episodes.

well that actually touches on another thing that has been irratating me lately with games, is that each game is automaticly expected to have a sequel and therefore often times the plot is not concluded by the end of the game, but instead becomes a big "stay tunned for next time"

so really its the same thing in some cases, most the games i play don't leave their plots open like that though.

Dead space 3 was really bad like that, with out spoiling any thing, basicly the games plot goes completely un resolved with a huge ending that obviously screams. "buy dead space 4" If they even make a DS4 (probably will, but as I recall EA made a huge stink about how many millions of copies they needed to sell of DS3 for it to justify its development)
