PC Choice Question

Post » Wed Nov 27, 2013 5:07 am

So previously, I had been set to get http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1469487-pc-build-question/#entry22914683 and then today somebody showed me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CMTykJ-DgbsCFahj7AodpkcA5A&Item=N82E16883220405&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-All+Desktop+PCs-_-N82E16883220405&ef_id=Um7aGAAAAX-tIEMJ:20131125225121:s and said that it was better, So I was just wondering if it actually was better than my original build.

First of all, it's significantly more expensive than your build, isn't it? So right from the get-go it's comparing apples to oranges

Apparently it is going to be going for about the same price on Black Friday, so I wasn't really worried about the price,

The GTX 760 is better than the Radeon 7870 (theoretically anyway !!!!!)

And the i7-4770 is faster than the AMD FX-6350 (actually the i7-4770 is the fastest processor out there !!!!)

As for the Mobo, the Ram modules, and the HDD you shouldn't bother about that, you will not notice any difference (performance wise) !!!!!

So yes, the newegg configuration is faster as yours !!!!!

CHEERS !!!!! :icecream:

While "theoretically" is good, do you know if it actually is better?

I think they're roughly the same, but come from different companies. It's the age old debate that NVIDIA seems to be winning because of native use of some of their software/firmware. (As far as I understand it, anyway. Somebody will certainly come along to verify/correct, mostly correct, me.)

In which case, as I've said a million times in the past in various building-a-pc threads: Building a PC yourself doesn't necessarily save you money. In fact, you'll find if you search hard enough and wait a bit, you'll invariably spend more building a PC. The benefit of building a PC is having complete control over your parts. The parts you choose for your self-built PC are quality parts, whereas who knows how good the PSU in a prebuilt PC is? How expandable the motherboard is, how cramped the case is, how good the cooling is, etc.

Spec-wise the prebuilt PC is better (though the i7 isn't something video games can really take advantage of), but as far as quality? That's a different matter and it's most likely inferior in that respect.

What do you mean that games can't really take advantage of it?

i7 is awesome for things that can be done concurrently. Things like virtualization, multimedia editing, folding, etc all can see great benefits from an i7 processor.

Gaming doesn't, though.

Fun fact: computers are for more than just playing video games.

The i5 actually would be a better choice as a processor. At least I think so. Not sure if games even would take advantage of that any better. Unless the game requires ultra complex functions, can't say an i7 will get its full use. Not even sure why it is used in gaming PCs when it makes more sense in things like video making ones. Unless the people using them are also recording themselves playing high end games.

Not sure if there will be an i5 that supports DDR4 ram if ram type needs to be supported by not only the motherboard, but the cpu.

If you do get the pre-built, please make sure to get that Rosewill psu just in case. Might need it anyways since the psu is a bit of a wonderfully(terrifyingly according to my sarcasm translator) ignored part of computers that might be skimped on often.

I am not a computer expert by any means. Just thought it might be a good idea to mention that you may need to change the psu in the prebuilt.
