Phone ringing

Post » Thu Nov 28, 2013 1:00 am

So I'm off work and I'm decide to get up, make breakfast and then go back for a nap. Only I'm woken up by my girlfriends phone ringing, and ringing, and ringing, and ringing, and ringing but she's out so she can't answer it. It's been ringing for a solid minute or so.

It reminds me of work when someone is away from their desk and get a call. People don't seem to get the concept of if they've not answered after the first 3 to 5 rings the person is probably away.

Basically;

How long do you let a phone ring for before hanging up?

Do you call back immediately after the first attempt, or wait?

Does excessive ringing get on your nerves?

I mean when you're calling someone and they don't pick up, when do you call back?

I know I call some people back right away but I normally only let it ring about 5 times before hanging up

Why didn't you just answer your GF's phone and tell the person on the other end that she'd call them back? My wife gets annoyed with me when I don't answer her phone.

Me, I personally dislike talking on the phone so half the time...unless it's my wife I ignore all in coming phone calls. Text messages I'll answer/reply to but phone calls only get answered if I feel like it. Do you guys leave messages? I don't. When I call someone if they don't answer I just hang up. It's very rare I leave a message.

I generally dislike answering phones, only do for family and some friends. It was also in the living room and I was in my bed, I'm not getting up again to go back to bed for a second time in one day :P

I don't leave messages. I'll normally text them what I was going to say on the phone or I'll call later, or let them call/text me

Depends on how important what I have to say is. I don't count the rings as different phones sometimes have different tones and some people assign songs or things of the like. I'd say approximately 10 seconds.

1. The amount of rings you hear as the caller isn't necessarily the same as the amount of rings made on the called phone.

1.5. Many times have I had someone pick up literally just before a call going to voicemail

2. I'll call back immediately if it's something urgent

3. excessive ringing only gets on my nerves when I'm at work during non-business hours. The phone system has Night/Lunch service recording to inform callers that we aren't currently open so no one can answer the call, but sometimes people STILL call back repeatedly. That's the only time it's annoying.

I have a hatred towards phones. I only answer for my mom and my grandma most of the time. My dad shares the same caller ID, so I am comfortable with answering him. I do sometimes answer for the rest of my family, but I fear I may end up being called by the more talkative members. I'd rather not chance that. I leave those certain calls for my mom just because I don't want to sound rude to the person.

It's worse when people set their caller ID to private. I am never going to answer you if you have it set to that. I don't trust such IDs. How do I know I am even calling the right person? I am aware it usually is just someone who has a certain position in their job, but that doesn't make the whole thing less annoying.

The only people who call me are bill collectors so I just let it ring on my end. Everyone has caller ID now so if I reconize your number , I will not pick up , straight to voice mail, The caller that you are trying to reach is outside of network, thats my message on voice mail. When I'm calling some one else , I let that svcker ring and ring , and promptly call back ,and let it ring and ring again . I demand that you pick up your phone, it is me, you are being summoned. I never leave messages , why leave clues behind as to who is calling ?

I am guilty of doing that too. If you don't answer the phone the first time I call back immediately. If you don't answer after that I start texting you asking, "Why u no answer?" My wife hates when I do that and always screams, 'I was busy doing stuff. Geez."

I generally will text somebody (if possible) after I call them and want to get a hold of them. Otherwise I leave a voicemail and wait for them to call me back. If I ignore a call because I'm busy or something people generally use the same rule, unless it's urgent.
