LET'S MAKE THIS WORK PEOPLE!

Okay, now as anyone could see there are HUNDREDS of tech threads floating around in CD - ranging from questions about graphics hardware, to questions about pricier graphics hardware and other tech such as monitors, hard drives and Processors to announcement threads of new technology and more. (I accede - I'm not being very eloquent here)

Any questions you have, tech news or ANYTHING related to buying/selling/information/announcements of new hardware should go here.

For example, if you come to the forums to ask "What is the better graphics hardware" or "What sort of RAM should I put in my PC?" then it should go here - I'm a little hazy, I know - but please keep all those graphics card and tech questions to one thread! Please!
So here's the summary, all:

  • Announcements and queries on new or unreleased tech
  • Benchmarks and results of hardware/discussion
  • Questions on what sort of hardware you need/want for your machine
  • Questions about existing tech and/or function
  • Pricing and recommendations

Should be kept to THIS THREAD.

This has been A-okayed by CCNA for all who were wondering - it's up to you to stop filling CD with the same topics again and again that ask what the most powerful card in existence is so you can (not) buy it.

If you feel you have a question or can answer one - please feel free to do so.

Thanks all.
Adding more links shortly, thank you for your patience.

(Threads 1-85 have been all pruned, may they rest in peace)

A friend's PC recently had the power supply burn out and so I swapped it for my old Enermax modular 650W. She has a GTX 460, unsure of the rest of the specs. However when she goes to play a game it will crash and reboot the system after a few minutes. I am fairly confident the PSU is in good working order as it was pulled out of a working system not too long ago. Is it still possible it went bad sitting in a box or is the GPU now to blame?

I thing the GTX 460 has 2 Supplementary Power Connectors 6 pin + 6 pin. (straight away from your PSU)

Have you connected those ?????

Is the fan of the CPU running normally and from the GTX 460 as well ???? (shut down your comp. Open the case. Restart your comp and see those fans)

It could be because the PSU burned out, some components having problem because of that.

-----------------

You could change the GTX 460 with another spare GPU if you have one, or you could try the GTX 460 in your PC.

Is there a tablet that would play a game such as Sky Rim or do I need a decent laptop? I travel a lot for a couple weeks at a time and need Office/Excel etc. that a windows based product supports, so no plugs for Apple please.

http://www.gpuzoo.com/Compare/EVGA_02G-P4-2663-KR__vs__EVGA_03G-P4-2664-KR/ says that, even though the 2GB version has 1GB less memory, since the clock is higher, it performed better. Here is my current setup:

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX470 1280MB
RAM: OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 8GB
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W ATX12V
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 250GB
Hard Drive: WD Black 7200RPM 1TB
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB

Two monitors (1920x1080, 1440x900)

This is a first step to gradually upgrading my computer over the course of a couple months.

EDIT: Ok, after looking some more, I see the GTX760s are just $15-$20 more than the GTX660s and 670s. So the question is now; "What's the best GPU around $250?"

Also, the GTX760 is requiring "minimum of 30 amps on the +12 volt rail". http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002 has "+12V1@18A,+12V2@18A,+12V3@18A,+12V4@18A". Would that work or should I look to upgrade that, as well?

First of all about the PSU:

Many people are confused by whether a single 12V rail or a multiple 12V rail power supply is better.

The confusion is justified as there are myths about regarding both floating around on the internet as well as people who swear by multi rail and others who swear by single rail.

There are claims that one way supplies cleaner or more stable voltage than the other, but this has a lot more to do with the platform and line filtering installed than the rail setup.

The answer to the question of which is best a single rail unit or a multi rail unit is that it does not make a difference.

------------- In short, its the total capacity of the 12V source that matters, how the rails are laid out does not affect you much.------------

--------------------

The GTX 670 is a bit faster than the GTX 760. (And that's logical as the two last digits showing the performance rate of nvidia GPU's.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/830?vs=854

...and as you can see here (at the bottom of the page), the specs are almost the same...

http://www.hwcompare.com/14806/geforce-gtx-670-vs-geforce-gtx-760/

On my country the cheapest GTX 760 costs: 312 USD

and the GTX 670 a little above 400 USD

As for the GTX 660 it cost's only: 220 USD

Comparison GTX 760 vs GTX 660: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/854?vs=783

But if you buy the GTX 660 comparing it with a GTX 470...(you will have a huge difference concerning the frame-rates)

...as the 660 are two generation above, having much higher processor and memory clock speed.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/519?vs=660

So at that price range (~250 USD) the winner is the GTX 660.

Equivalent ATI GPU: Either the HD7850 (a bit slower as the GTX 660) or the HD7870 (it's a draw - from 10 different games, 5 goes to Nvidia and 5 to Ati)

Price: HD7850 -> 195 USD - HD7870 -> 237 USD
