Nostalgic Gaming

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:25 pm

so, I am here reading some news, while listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnG5X7iU4B0. a song from the old game "Outlaws by LucasArts", my favorite Western (I like it even more than Red Dead Redemption), and a game most of you probably never heard of.. and it got me thinking about the game..

sure the game may not be overly Complex, but I enjoyed the Story and the voice acting was amazing for its time (plus, it was the first FPS to ever have a "sniper-zoom" option on your rifle)..

So, I just dug out my old Windows 95 machine and am going to give it another play-through...

What are some Old Games that you still love to play to this day?

Currently playing classic Doom, with the megawad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9cUC9rN4VU&list=PLgS1ZoidySwNd5INt8O_LDuo55R-cgTs5. Only couple of years old, despite the game being 20 years old :lmao: But it's no wonder, it's still the best damn FPS there is

Map 21, that's where it starts to get interesting  Though Map 15, "Enigma Helix", is my favorite of that mod

Don't really play other really old games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhzXKMqZBBc occasionally, but not nearly as often as Doom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvXDik3-XG0 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6I8hVaqmA0 once in a while too.

I've been playing Descent II and Freespace since I was a kid, with MDK 2 coming in when I was a teenager after my dad got it for my birthday (don't remember which one).. I recently got the Doom 3 BFG Edition and have been able to replay Doom II as well. The rest of my games I started on when I was a little older, but I'll likely replay them all eventually.. I never had too many games to begin with, but I do get conflicted sometimes with what I want to play.

I've been on a Quake binge latley (Quake, Quake 2 and Quake 3 Arena). I just got Quake 4 for the first time. I had to jump through some hoops to get it working properly on Windows 7 64-bit, but it was well worth it. :D

TIE Fighter-still a great space flight fight game, with a 'work your way up' mission structure that gives it a taste of RPG

Robot Odyssey-unique puzzle/problem solving game that has never been duplicated despite the fact it was made when Windows was just one of many competing OS.

Carmageddon-score points for running over pedestrians and crushing opponent's cars...that never gets old.

Alpha Centauri-I play later releases in the Civ franchise, but always go to this one occasionally.

Spy Masters Unmask the Prankster. Sadly, I can't find a single video of it. The game hardly works on Windows 7, so I haven't played it in a long time.

Wow...hadn't really thought of it that way but I guess Morrowind would be a 'nostalgia game'...but truth be told I couldn't even name all the games on my machine that are Morrowind era...

I play dozens of old games, on all sorts of platforms.....
(recently been playing a lot of Contra on NES, trying to beat it without the code like I did years ago)

But I don't think it has anything to do with nostalgia.

I just like good old games, the same way I like good new games.

Through the PC have I been able to play some of my favorite old games on older consoles, such as TES III: Morrowind, GTA III, GTA Vice City, Star Wars: Battlefront II, and so forth. Through Steam, have I been able to rekindle old flames with some classic PC games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Stronghold Crusader, and System Shock 2.

Feels good.

~Edit~

Speaking about old FPSs. Gonna throw in SW Battlefront 2 as well.

I find myself wanting to replay Oblivion, Skyrim and Final Fantasy XII often, though they are nowhere near old enough to be considered "nostalgia games" in the sense that the OP implies.
