ESO availability outside Northern America...?

Post » Thu Dec 05, 2013 3:55 pm

I would love any help on the following, as I have been registered from the beginning and desperately want to get into ESO, but have never been selected for beta access or anything.

Will Bethesda block other countries IPs from getting into North American servers?

My office job is in China... am I totally screwed?

:wallbash:

Even though WoW has so many Chinese players, I can't possibly imagine a game as awesome as ESO could be localized in Chinese -the cost would be way too high. Plus, Chinese gamers are mostly casual and social groups that don't have any crossover into this kind of hardcoe experience. Freedom and selection and options are a dilemma to those players -not a selling point. Even if it was only subtitled and not recorded, I consider this size of localization, and the difficulty of the target language, to be beyond the "willing-to-risk" financial threshold. So it 99% probably will never be available in Chinese.

I will play over the most laggy crappy connection and still pay truck loads of money on whatever I can if they will just not IP block me out. VPN services get detected by the great firewall and are regularly blocked as well. Please don't IP block!

If you've got decent internet you could connect to either the US or EU server. From China, I'd imagine the US server would be your best bet.

I've got people in my guild from the US, China, Japan, Australia, and various countries in the EU. All of them plan to play on the US server and hopefully they will all be able to.

They did say players can choose between the EU and US servers, so I assume that means international players are not IP blocked.

China is sometimes a special case though...

If I were you, I'd ask them on twitter or send them an email.

I use to play Lineage 2. And chat was constantly flooded with mandarin. I could never understand what anyone was saying. The gold farmers were everywhere. For awhile I wasn't sure if there were any English speaking players. Eventually I found a guild and about half of the members were from N. America. The rest were from either S America or China.

It was really...frustrating. I hope ESO is region locked.

I've heard more about China blocking IP's with games than I have the US, there's a pretty large BR community in a couple of the games i play. If I had to guess, there wouldn't be an IP block.
