Angband comes up first, still remember playing it a few years back. Then Dwarf Fortress comes up second, but God knows that game is way too complex for me.

It's a sub-genre of dungeon crawlers derivative of a video game named Rogue, hence the term "rogue-like". They typically feature permadeath as well as procedurally-generated content, usually in the form of dungeons.
To answer your question, rogues are like drifters.
Can I get a definition of rougelike please? I feel like the phrase has been thrown around so much its lost its meaning.
Well thank you Nyleken
I have a few rougelikes/roguelites that I enjoy at the moment:
Binding of Isaac
Rogue Legacy
Paranauticle Activity
Pretty much a dungeon-crawler that features randomly-generated content and permadeath. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nethack
I always avoided that checkbox. I don't want to feel the pain of losing a high-level character.
