I hope so.

edit: Actually, I'm not even sure I would buy it through Steam. I don't see a reason to now that I think about it. I'm buying my digital copy straight from ZOS if possible.

Since all Bethesda published games for the past couple of years have come out on Steam, I would guess this one would too.

Ah. Except Wet and that action RPG whose name escapes me. Sorry.

Same reason I assume WoW never came to Steam...They don't really need to do it to sell digital copies. They'll sell themselves, not have to split the profit at all with Valve.

SWTOR didn't go to steam because it is EA and they have their own digital distribution client.

The main reason that I want it on steam is the tools -- share pics, videos, groups (like the one in my sig) and show achievements, etc. The overlay is very useful also. Everquest (I & II) and RIFT are on steam, but also have their own forums and store as well. IMHO, EA's client svcks. Only time that I use it when I am "forced" too -.-

If ZOS does not use steam, I still want those tools. Why do they want to re make the wheel again? o_0

@k9mouse

That is how I feel about steam, the only time I use it is when I am forced to. I have a friend that refers to steam as a virus and wishes to be rid of it. He even has gone so far as to say he will not install a game with steam. I feel it is a waste of system resources to have to have it running in the background just to play a game, especially when the steam software is not doing anything. I own the cd-rom why do I need steam to play? ( civ v is my only experience with steam)

If it is optional to buy it from steam or not and not be forced to run steam to play I would be fine with that.

I really don't see less that 50mb of memory and less than 0.1% of cpu really taking upi resources on todays computers that play games.

You can kind of do all of that by just hooking your TESO client into the non-steam game shortcuts. Which is what I will be doing with mine either way. Gives you access to the Steam overlay and all the other functionality.

True, but it does not count total hours played for non steam games and the achievements do not show up on non steam games. Like you, I am planing to use the overlay anyways, but the overlay will work better if ESO is more tried to the overlay.

Yeah not tracking hours svcks, and since the game will have its own achievement and tracking system I doubt it would have any on Steam even if it was sold through it (other MMOs on Steam don't, such as Rift). We'll at the very least most likely have a /played command or something to track our hours manually. :/

I will concede that it might not be much, but I really only like to run software that I need.

Questions for the pro steam people.
If I buy a cd-rom version of a game that steam sells do I need steam to run it? Why?
What are the pros to having steam?

I guess I am confused why most people want it on steam.

This might be a little off topic -- if can not share achievements -- they will become pointless. I am hoping that ZOS have a system in place to share them. TF 2 have over 400 listed for that game, if ESO use steam's tool for that, it will be a very BIG list indeed.

Depends on the game. Many games still require you to run steam even with a cd.

Pros to steam:

Built in community system

Stupidly good sales (I've see 90% off sales before and many 50%-75% sales)

Non intrusive DRM (compared to what companies were trying to use before, sorry DRM is probably here to stay)

Easily setup library for you games.

Games tied to your account so you don't need a cd.

Mass support for Indy games and up and coming developers.

Advertisemants for good games you may never have seen or heard of before.

Built in anti cheat software.

Like I said in a different post, steam have a lot tools to use and ways to share content with other people on the internet. Every game have forums to use, one can get a lot of crazy good deals on games and software and a place to make some really good friends (both ingame and out).

Also, one does not need the disc to install / re install once it is added to the user library of games. // Depends on the devs, most of the time that is true ;) With steam cloud, the saves can be easy moved to different computers and re install the game on a different system easy. For me, I have made and talk to many different people on steam everyday, so I use steam a lot then just games.

Ah, ok. Thank you. Not sure it makes sense for an mmo but I see the appeal for games that offer offline and online multiplayer support.

Since we have not heard one or the other concerning Steam Integration, or not, and this thread has turned into a Steam discussion, I will close this and direct you to use the following thread if you want to discuss Steam
