Massively awards "Most Likely to Flop" to ESO

Post » Sat Dec 21, 2013 4:00 pm

The Shank fellow from TESOTF seems to be one of the most hardest people to please, people shouldn't be expecting perfection from any game, especially an MMO, compromises have to made, if people can't stand seeing other players in the TES universe, then MMOs are not for them and they should stick to single player games.

Ya, that's why I was just thinking why ESO not create small private shards or shards with much decreased number of players to keep such lone players. Theoretically possible, but it might be that there is very small number of them.

I count myself as one who doesn't like MMO games, but i do like The Elder Scrolls games. So i believe i'll wait for the next single-player game in the series.

I hope it does flop, reasons being: If you play on xbox they want $60 for the game, $60 for xbox live and $15 a month to actually play the game. If the devs feel that this is a success it will only set a precident and open the flood gates for every game company to really take the piss out of us consumers.

It's the MMO standard, it won't set the president for that at all as once a company has created a single player game, that's it, content done (barring any DLC/patches) MMOs require constant updates, maintenance and have regular content updates.

Also, MMO's subscriptions are one of the cheapest forms of entertainment.

Cute. But statistical modeling for monetization doesn't bother taking those people into account, because they really don't matter. (Either because there are too few or because they really do fit into a box somewhere else on the scale).

I'm not sure about that. Watching a lot of streams of gameplay for other unreleased MMOs (which I've been doing a fair amount of this week) has revealed a particular pattern: the PvP fans are a demanding lot, and they really want structured PvP. If ESO had some form of small group or solo PvP, whether in the form of Battlegrounds, Arenas, or whatever, I'd say it has a decent chance of attracting those players. But with just the massive AvA PvP? I have doubts.

I Don't think it will flop, but it will defiantly only have a small, dedicated fan base on account of its subscription fee. Some people like a niche community (personally, I like many people with many play styles), so this isn't neccisarily a failure, as even on a small scale the model can be adjusted to turn a profit.

". MMORPG fans are sick of story-driven single-player themepark MMOs,"

is the hot point, if they are able to implent sandbox in time or not.
