No NDA ends until the company controlling said NDA tells you that you are free from it. And don't go by word-of-mouth either... you are only free from the NDA when an Official company rep tells you that you are free from it.
There's Beta I did six+ years ago that I've never had the NDA lifted. And I haven't ever spilled the beans about which game(s) those are either, because it's legally binding.
So it gets lifted whenever the controlling company decides, and you must be informed of it by a company rep. That's how you get out of a signed NDA.
Companies don't like to let raw footage go out because to much variability by individual systems and performance settings. And there are way too many goofy people who have no idea what they are seeing think that is what the final release build will be like.
open beta might be the release version and even that will have substantial patching on launch day and for a few weeks afterward just for last minute touch ups and bug fixes.
People who never played a mmo at launch day will be in for a surprise. MMOS have a different development system and are constantly being refined throughout the life of the game. Often times they launch with some systems disabled so they can concentrate on getting core stuff stable before working on fringe or elder game systems.
Indeed. The Official Forums will be flooded for the first month or so after release with people who've never played an MMo before about "why is -blank- not working?!?" or "why can't I go -blank- or do -blank- action?!? I think the game is broken! How can you release a broken product, ZOS?!?!?!?!?"
It's all part of the launch of a new MMO. I try to help people who approach me when I can by giving them information and talking with them about how MMO's work vs. the games that they are probably more used to. It's just something that most every new MMO has to go through for its first few months of life.
