NFCAFC Football Conference Championship - Pick The Winners

Well it's sunday and that means it's time for football. Big games coming up and I always show a bit more love for the NFC and AFC Title games because of the familiarity of the teams. And this year we got two great ones with a few interesting storylines:

Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady - the best marque matchup since Elway vs. Farve and it's very similar to previous matchups. Once again, Tom Brady has a Top10 defense in points allowed while Manning has the best offense (mostly because of him) while playing with a not so good defense (though this year they are 22nd in points allowed...when the Colts won the Super Bowl, they were ranked 23rd. What Manning did this year was amazing with the offense considering he doesn't have the weapons he used to have in Indianapolis, but they've definitely proved themselves to be better than what the Patriots have. However Patriots found a running game this year, in fact only the Vikings scored more points on the ground than the Patriots (who were tied with Philadelphia in that respect). It will be interesting to see the Denver Broncos who have had their defensive woes missing two of their best players in Von Miller and Chris Harris while the Patriots are pretty much intact.

I would love to see the Broncos win and Manning head to another Super Bowl, but I think Tom Brady will benefit once again with the better overall team surrounding him. Still picking the Broncos.

In the NFC, it is a matchup of defense and running games. Seahawks gave up the fewest points, 49ers gave up the 3rd fewest. Pretty much looking for Kaepernick and Frank Gore to be carrying that ball a lot since the Hawks have 3 Pro Bowlers in their secondary. 20 interceptions from that 4-man crew, and they are young too. On the other side of the ball, you got Marshawn Lynch against Patrick Willis. I think the Seahawks will be forced to throw a lot, which goes against the conservative style of play that Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson like to play, using the run to setup the quick pass. The 49ers have more weapons in the passing game, and I think offensively are better. It is going to be great and I hope to see a great defensive battle. I'll pick the Seahawks because they are playing at home, and you can mock it all you want, but the home-field advantage they have is there that only a few places can match (KC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh).

I just think it'll be a good chance this year to see the two #1 seeds faceoff in the Super Bowl. That would be too easy though, right? It rarely ever happens. Last time both #1's went to the Super Bowl? 20 years ago...Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys. Last time a #1 seed won the Super Bowl? 10 years ago, New England Patriots over the Panthers.

Broncos and Seahawks.
