Which Fallout game got you into the series...?

With so many people coming in, or coming back, to the forums since the F4 announcement, I figured this would be fun to do again.

After voting, please write a short comment about why that game is your favorite and when you first got into the series.

-----

F2 was the first one I played about a few months after release, a friend told me about F1/F2 and I couldn't find the first one at the time so I just bought F2 to give it a try. Was immediately hooked and quickly searched for the first one before getting too far in the second. F2 was just such an improvement over the first, it was everything perfect in a game at that time. Still to this day F2 is the one I replay the most.

I give FO Tactics love because I like strat games and as far as a turn based squad strat game it ranks right up there with jagged alliance. It isn't my fav FO RPG, that, I would say is pretty much a tie between 1,2, and NV. Very hard to choose between the 3.

Fallout was my first welcoming to the series in '98. About a year later I picked up 2 only after finally completing the first one. I was only 13 at that time so I was easily distracted and not concerned with finishing the game as much as I was just goofing around in the world with various builds and such. F2 was just the perfect follow-up.

As for my favorite...I voted for F2, but NV can be interchanged with it. Both are my favorites in their own way, but if I had to pick one to play for the rest of my life, solely, it would be F2.

Fallout New Vegas, because of the moral choices, storyline of the DLCs, story of the Survivalist, writing, complexity in questlines, and some memorable and entertaining characters.

The first Fallout was my first Fallout. That's right you filthy peasants, I'm the original deal. :disguise:

But my favorite is between Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas. Both so amazing I could never choose between the two.

First one I played was Fallout 3, but the one I would say got me "into" the series, as in, made me a fan, was New Vegas. Fallout 3 is fine enough, I suppose, but it didn't make me go "I'm excited to see what happened earlier in this series and what comes next!" Then I played New Vegas, which just felt better written, with a more fleshed out world that actually felt lived in with more relatable characters and histories.

Excited to play Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics once my mini-nuke arrives and see where they fall in the rankings.

Fallout 2 on both counts. First played in '98, and kept playing more or less regularly ever since. Would've started with the first game, but I didn't have a chance to get it back then.

Although what got me initially interested in the series (well, it wasn't a series yet back then), was a short preview of the Fallout (1) demo in one of our gaming magazines somewhere in '97.

Fallout 3 was my first. I hated the idea that Bethesda was "wasting" time on Fallout and refused to buy it for years. I bought it late in 2012 when Steam put it on sale. I have since played 1 and 2 and New Vegas.

I like Fallout 3 the best. I like it the best because in Fallout 3 it is easier for me to create my own stories. I'm not interested in stories developers tell. I have a vivid imagination and I would rather tell my own stories.

Fallout 1 was what got me into the series, and it's still my favorite, not as goofy as 2, and more cohesive and better written than 3. New Vegas is really well done in my opinion, but it's about as good as 2, maybe a little better, except for the broken combat system.

Fallout 1 got me into it. The first time I heard "War. War Never Changes" I was hooked.

1st: Fallout

2nd: New Vegas

3rd: Fallout 2

4th: Fallout Tactics

5th: Fallout 3
