My apologies if I've inadvertently started yet another argument over this same area. In general, if people are so devoted and skilled at roleplaying that they can leave their real world opinions, prejudices and experiences at the log in screen, and then devote themselves entirely to a character that they've imagined, then kudos to them. If people choose to use what is presented in the game for their character as an opportunity to think about their real life views and anolyse what they see, in the same way as they might respond to a book, film, or real life itself, then that's also fine. If people want to run around blasting the pants off various enemies with as many large, explosive weapons as they can, again, perfectly valid.

I pressed on drake-heart 12 (regrettably in hindsight) purely because I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game, not only as entertainment but also to explore my own moral and ideological responses to what is presented. Walking into Nipton for example and seeing what had happened and why. Barbaric? Ruthless but necessary? I found it hard to believe someone could be presented with the same material and not react to that personally as I had. But let's begin again, let go.

Also, if we follow drake-heart's philosophy, none of us have ever met the other, so there's no need to form personal opinions about each other. Our avatars are entirely fictional so we cannot have any opinions about them. Besides, for all we know drake-heart may simply be roleplaying a particular type of character on the forum.

Many of the groups have attractive qualities, but I would probably be most comfortable as a member of the Boomers.

Maybe try to convince them to converse a little before opening fire, but hey it's a dangerous wasteland out there.

The Strip and other communities like Novac are strictly that: communities.

The idea was that you ask yourself where you'd wanna live or how you'd wanna live with the options available, THEN from that perspective you ask yourself what main faction you'd want to support. I didn't include House or Yes Man because for this little thought experiment, you are not the Courier and thus have no say in who wins beyond the abilities of a basic civilian or soldier. So for example a Strip civilian likely could not care less who wins beyond not wanting a total anarchist Indy (one that doesn't activate the Securitron army) or Legion victory, but a Brotherhood of Steel member, NCR homesteader/soldier/farmer/merchant or Kings member obviously have pretty significant interest in region politics as those could threaten their homes and way of life.

I was just thinking this too, along the lines that Nellis is probably the best place to grow up in the Mojave. The children have food, clothing, education, fairly safe(if they stay out of the generator station!), and seem to have the free time to just play and be kids. And they even have video games! :D

Westside. A community with a lot of potential and in need of some strong individuals to help build it. It's fairly safe, but there would still be some action. I'm surprised I'm the only vote for it tbh...

I'm a big fan of Westside too, it's a community who've built themselves up to have a source of income, security and a spirit of cooperation. There's a lot to admire there. I just prefer the Followers, mainly because they've been around longer and therefore their aims are more widescale. But Westside gives me a lot of hope for an Independent Vegas.

now on my first serious play thru of nv first weeks i usually try to kow the game mechanics

i think i take the brotherhood of steel even with their faults they the best hope for humanity , in a sense veronica is right all the way

the legion , no way Rome was more than just a empire ruled by emperors and caesar is a complete idiot who knows nothing about roman history

this whole legion concept is almost like a bad history channel docu about rome where the re enactment actors wear something that comes straight from a 50 ' sandal b movie , and i wil not even menyion the cruelty and inhumanity of the legion , copying only the worse of what rome was they are eventually doomed to fail

NCR even tho my character wil help them i feel they are doomed to repeat the mistakes that led to the great war , their hearts is in the rughtr place but the wastelands do not need a democracy mirred in a burocracy and political backstabbing what it needs is strong rational leadership even if means a benevolent dictatorship

most of the other groups are basicly thugs with a mob mentallity and the enclave as far i know they are death

so what is left
