Graphics options not saving

>>SOLVED<<

>>Manually made a fallout4 folder under users\~~\documents\mygames now all is good.<<

Hello, So I start the game and it says it's detecting hardware (does this every time I start) Then it puts it into windowed mode at 800x500, I change it to full screen 1920x1080 and click OK only for it to ignore everything I just did and reset it to 800x500 windowed. Why oh why does it do this?

Don't know, but it could be something as simple as an .ini file being set to read only.

.INI files are probably found in C:\Users\%UserName%\My Documents\My Games\Fallout 4\

As people have stated before, it's very likely that it has something to do with the read/write properties of the files. I had the same problem when I was installing fallout 3, and the settings files was in the c disk that sometimes are set to read only. You can ether move the game files with a symbolic link (not really advisable), reinstall on another drive, or most simple solution, remove the "read only" setting to the entire install folder (or wherever the settings are saved, not sure about the file structure of this new game) and sub folders. You do this by right clicking it, and then clicking properties, and unchecking the checkbox at the bottom.

Nope, not there. Nor in c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\fallout4\, only things there are DLClist.txt & plugins.txt

Checked my steam install directory and nothing is read only, and full access permissions are available to all users.

this is annoying. :sadvaultboy:

So it turns out I also can't save my game. It says it saved, but when I go to load, I don't have any saves available.

Okay, I'm having the same issues. I've not confirmed this but find your My Games folder and right click it and select properties. If Read only has a Box or tick in the box, click it so that the box is empty. Launch game and go through the "Setup". If this is okay now it should save. Going to test myself.

@trunipbob what did you mean by >>Manually made a fallout4 folder under users\~~\documents\mygames now all is good.<<

how did you link this to fallout 4 or did it literally just use it instead as it wasnt there before or something?

I am having the same problem

Literally went to mygames folder and made a new folder called 'fallout4'.

then right click on the folder, go to security tab and edit the permissions to give everyone full access.

OMFG you are literally a genius just rechecked the folder name and it was fallout 4 not fallout4

I noticed this after my fallout 3 folder is called fallout3 with no space!

This is a legit fix so if you have this problem try the fix in the top most comment it WILL work!

Thanks sooooo much man love you <3!

Just a heads up for those searching for the same issue I had. This resolved it. Created a fallout4 folder in My Games, removed read-only, ran the game from Steam - worked like a charm. All issues fixed.

Problem I had:

Can't save the same, can't play full-screen, can't save graphics settings, every time I run the game it runs the graphics detection. Using Steam.
Windows 10 64bit
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 Ghz
8GM RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti [358.91 driver]
250GB SSD - 32GB Free

So I made a fallout4 folder in the mygames folder, the graphics detector is still trying to do it's thing every time I launch, however the settings I want seem to be sticking either way.

Problem is, I still can't save my game.. I'm not sure if I'm missing a file or something.. I just know I've spent the past 4 hours trying to figure this crap out and it's annoying now. lol?

literally follow the solved part of the top quote it worked for me save a Fallout4 folder (with no space) in myDocuments/MyGames :)

The Fallout4 folder should be empty and then with the game still open you can save your file,

Then to check it has worked open up the menu and see if the load tab is now accessible or check the folder and it should now have a save file in it

Good luck guys (Y)

Yeah I tried that, it isn't creating a saves folder in the fallout4 folder, and my graphics detector is still trying to do it's thing even though it has the .ini files in it. This is more than a simple annoyance now.
