Power ConcernsIdeas

Hello Wanderers! I just want to express my conerns with the new Power Armor in Fallout 4. Now, after the E3 presentations I noticed that there is a 'Core' dial, what does that mean? Does that mean the armor has limited use? I also noticed under the 'Core' dial there are numbers underneath, does that also mean we can carry more 'cores' to keep our armor on? Now, I hope we can travel the wasteland wearing Power Armor as long as we want, it would be quite disapointing if the we had to constantly manage our power supply.

And here are some ideas I have for the Power Armor/customization:

-A modifier where we can add a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher

-The ability to kick/fling around Raiders (It would be pretty cool kicking a Raider through a wall)

-Night Vision mode

-A modifier where the armor doesn't take up as much core energy

-Dynamic HUD (Lights up enemies red, informs you of incoming threats, etc)

And that's basically it, what do you guys think? :disguise:

I can ge behind all of then except the battery life one; that one should just be a case of "you look for a bigger/better/more efficient battery".

In my opinion, if power armor is far more powerful than normal armor (kinda a god mode) then, in theory(depending on how fast it drains), I don't think it will be too annoying. Will just be like you have to have ammo for weapons. Plus in the settlements you have power generators, maybe the cores can be recharged?

It's already been speculated a number of times that due to PA being more like a wearable vehicle, it will be limited use. This is more accurate to the original fallouts and honestly makes more sense. The PA in 3/NV was just an armor skin with different attributes. It wasn't a force in itself. Think of it as a tank and tanks need fuel. You also can't use a tank all the time for every situation

T-51b Info.

"The armor is fitted with a back-mounted TX-28 MicroFusion Pack which generates an output power of 60,000 Watts to power the HiFlo hydraulic systems built into the frame of the suit. Made of a poly-laminate composite, the outer shell of the T-51b is lightweight and capable of absorbing over 2500 Joules of kinetic impact. The 10-micron-thick silver ablative coating can reflect laser and other radiation emissions without damaging the composite subsurface, and the eyeslit for the helmet is made of bullet proof glass to protect the wearer from any projectiles. The armor usually carries enough fuel to last for one hundred years."

Power armor requires... power... to function, hence the nuclear core. It's simple really, any armor that hasn't been "activated" requires 1 nuclear core, which when used lasts for a limited time before your forced to bail.

My guess is this: Our first Power Armor suit is a t-45d with a limited battery, and to tear up with it we'll have to maintain a supply of power cores we can salvage from places. But then later on in the game we finally get a t-51b and no longer have to worry about power. The armor does also have it's own health, too, so even without the power requirement we'll be limited.

True. But I doubt every suit of power armor has been in constant use for the passed 200 years. And even if they had, the fact is that they have the fueling capacity to last that long. So if we charge it up, it should be able to last us longer than a couple of fights.

Oh absolutely. I just think the days of walking around in it indefinitely are long gone. From the looks of it, idk that I'd want to either. It looks useful but cumbersome

If I don't get to use it indefinitely by the end of the game I'm going to be disappointed. I get why they'd limit it at the start, I just don;t want it to be a permanent thing.

Ideas are nice and fit really well within the powerfantasy, but by now they're ideas for DLCs or mods. Although some of those things may already be present in the game (armour-mounted missile launchers, night vision). And kicking people through wall is not going to happen since there is no dynamic environment destruction in any of the tech Bethesda is using.

From what I understood PA is supposed to make you a walking juggernaut damaged only by the most powerful weaponry. If Bethesda has decided to make it more like a tank but balanced it out with the fact that you need to power it then I'm perfectly fine with that.

As for your suggestions OP I like them except

-A modifier where we can add a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher

Not too sure how I feel about this, I'd rather have the armor remain an armor instead of a weapons platform.

-Dynamic HUD (Lights up enemies red, informs you of incoming threats, etc)

I think this would get annoying after a while, having enemies constantly look like they spilled ketchup on themselves.
