Has anyone managed to make the Diamond City house look good?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 1:46 am

I'm trying to make the house in Diamond City feel somewhat homely but it's proving rather difficult. It's full of smoke, it's a weird shape, you can't customise or build any walls or flooring beyond placing rugs and paintings, the lighting is awkward... meh. Anyone managed to get a decent setup in there?

I can't. I bought it awhile ago and it's literally barren. I cleaned it out, attempted to put some light's up and set up a couple of shelves and other thing's to fill with items and I can't even manage to get enough resources to make it as exceptional as some of my settlements... meh is right.

Didn't like the fact that I couldn't place any crafting benches inside. But I was able to place some furniture in. The disco ball looked pretty good placed over the bed. What really drove me crazy was for some reason everyone started shooting me once I stepped outside. Had to reload a previous save because every time my character would respawn they'd start shooting all over again. Im going to get the house again, but I'm saving before I do. I'd like to pinpoint the problem and find out exactly what caused it.

Ok, so I saved the game and bought the house and went looking for the cause of the issue I experienced, and I think I found what happened. You may find it as ridiculous as I do. Try and keep up. You may notice there are two entrances to the house, both are locked when you've bought it. The first time I bought it I unlocked it and went in the first entrance on the right, started building, then headed out the left entrance. The DC townies saw me unlock the first door, but not the other one. They just witnessed me coming out the other locked door, and assumed I was breaking in. I tested out this theory by unlocking the right entrance and going back out of that one, then unlocking the left entrance from the outside and going back out of that one. Nothing happened. No shooting, no angry mob with torches and pitchforks. This just goes to show you how easy you can confuse the game, should be careful not to do so, and yet another issue to add to the growing list that needs fixed.

do the crafting benches use your junk from inside the house?

or do you have to carry everything out, if you want to upgrade your weapons?

Think you have to carry everything out. Think whatever junk you place in the building bench inside the house let's you craft just inside the house. Would be nice if we could make supply lines to the house but that sounds kinda ridiculous too. You could always test and see if you can though.

Eh. I bought it just to have it. Otherwise, I prefer the home I've built myself in Sanctuary. Just gotta make sure that the other people in Sanctuary don't think that my bed is theirs.

I wish I could make it look like a real, useful place, but THEY DISABLED CRAFTING STATIONS. I cleared out the warehouse portion so I could place them, scrolled over and.... nothing.

What's the point?!

I haven't had much luck with balancing selling to get caps and scraping old gear for crafting materials. Meaning I've been too broke to buy the house, I'm going to try though.

I was able to turn it into a pretty sweet looking lounge. It's incomplete and I took all the decor down because of the stupid bugs, but you can still get an idea of what I was going for.

I looked over the pics and noticed a lot of stuff I haven't got in my build menu. Was it because you've found all of the Picket Fence magazines?

Yeah, I looked up all the magazine locations and hunted them down one by one. Though, the only new stuff you're seeing is the plants and lighting. Some of the other new stuff is for the outdoors.

That's actually pretty nice. It's got a private members clubhouse vibe to it. Gonna have to 'borrow' some ideas B)

Awesome job with the interior decor! I was struggling with a concept for how to make this feel and look like home given all the limitations with the crafting station. It's good to know this decor is possible once all the Picket Fences mags are found.

Still struggling with Beth's logic not making the entire workshop menus available as well. The PA workstation being outside is one thing given the size dimension limitations. But what's the point of not being able to have all the other crafting stations inside the house?? The complete inconvenience and impossibility to craft chems, armor, weapons, cook etc. in your new $$$ home during a rad storm is a pain in the ass. Especially since tons of dead space exists in this house. And especially upstairs in that diner room that leads to the balcony.

I wanted to have a complete kitchen, but for some idiotic reason, Beth decided against including a stove--the most basic appliance in any NPC home. It doesn't make sense that you can add an ice chest, cigarette and nuka cola vending machines--yet not a basic appliance like a stove?? Not even the smallest kind of stove?!? And no washer/dryer? Or ironing board/iron clutter which I came across scavenging a home a while back?

The wait for GECK and modders to rectify this illogical design setup is so painfully far away.
