Shaddup, already

I'd have thought Bethesda would have taken a hint from the whole "arrow to the knee" meme, but nooo, the npc's are just as obnoxious here as they are in Skyrim. This isn't rocket science. Either give 'em 10 different things to say, or at least let em be quiet some of the time, don't make 'em say the same @#$! thing every. stinking. time. Piper's question about the USS Constitution is cute, I guess, but after I'd heard it God knows how many times, I was wishing you could kill your companions after all.

This thread would make an excellent fallback point, should the need arise.

Oh great. Just freakin' great. I saw the Op's name and now I'm singing "Conjunction, Function what's your function?" :celebration:

I have that in my head now as well.

Yes more voiced lines would be great but Voices do take up a lot of resources.

The other night I heard a raider say, "So, I took a bullet to the knee -" and his buddy interrupted him with, "Shut up! We've heard this story a hundred times!" Obviously a reference to Skyrim and the meme that Bethesda stuck in there.

Stuff like this is a balancing act. Too frequent and it gets annoying. Too infrequent and they may as well not bother putting it in. Bethesda obviously feels that "more frequent" is the lesser of the two evils, and I can totally understand that from a designer's perspective.

Not that that makes http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Follows-Chalk any less annoying, but at least I understand why they did it.

same spoiler

he is one of the few who gets a bonus as a merchant but it seems buggy because every time you talk to him you will offer him a job first chat and then second be able to actually browse his store and it's annoying.

Even with twenty different lines per character, we spend so much time in the game we would know them all by heart. I don't mind them shaving time off that particular departement to work on, hopefully, more important stuff.

Oh, it's so much better than in Skyrim though. They shut up if you move about six feet away from them.

Also, I'm almost positive companions' repetitive comments about the USS Constitution is a bug. Like they accidentally missed the "say once" flag on the dialog, or something.

Maybe that's it, I'm thinking that's happening a LOT, not just in the one place. I don't really want that much more dialogue, I know what a drain in resources it can be. (In fact, I can take or leave the voiced main character- I kinda wish they'd spent that time and effort on other things.)

But the point is, if an NPC, any NPC, only has one thing to say, make 'em say it the first time, and maybe every 10 or 20 times you interact with them. Not every. stinking. time.

I like how some raiders shout out stuff like "why you hiding" ..when in fact they are hiding behind something while I am walking around trying to find them..
