Settlement question. Why is it still in red?

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2015 11:03 pm

I am trying to figure out how Settlements work, and finally figured out how to assign someone. Just starting the game, in Sanctuary, put the water in liked it asked to, now it wants food. I put in 2 food, still in red, then thought I needed it to be assigned, and finally did it, but still in red. So I added more food, now it's at 4.

So now I am thinking the more food I plant on the ground the higher the number will be. So my question is why is it still in red? What do I have to do, to get it into green? I just don't know what to do now. Playing on Xbox One if it makes a difference.

How many people in the settlement? Each item of food you plant is half a unit. So you need twice as much food planted as you have people in the settlement. Including companions you send there, but minus traders who wander on in.

Each person you assign to food production should be able to handle enough food to feed 3 people. Hope this helps.

To clarify this further. If you have 12 people in a settlement. You need to plant 24 units of food. And have 4 people dedicated to handling the crops.

Thank you so much Oggie, that worked. I had 6 people in the settlement. I added more food, and when I hit 6, it went to blue (since my screen is blue).

I see I will need to assign more people to food now. Again thank you very much, I was ready to pull my hair out and quit playing for a bit because of this. Just wished Bethesda made it easier and explained how to do this properly.

You just made my Fallout 4 more enjoyable. More questions to be asked soon. :P

I think mutefruit is one food unit per plant. Might make feeding a bit easier to use that instead.

Yep, Mutfruit provide +1 Food per plant, whereas everything else is only +0.5 Food per plant.

Also, you need Mutfruit, Tatos and Corn (and Purified Water) to make Vegetable Starch for +5 Adhesive per batch.

Thanks Ephidel, I didn't know that. When I get back to Sanctuary I will plant those as well.

You are most welcome. :)

I believe you can boil up Bones (parts of human skeletons) for Oil too. I've never really needed to, but Oil can be fairly rare to find when scavenging.
