Combat Zone - Very disappointing

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 9:26 pm

I was playing Fallout 4 today and I encountered a location called the "Combat Zone". Immediately by the name, I was so excited. I walked inside and I saw the cage, and the announcer and it was exactly what I thought it would be. But, when I walked down to the cage everyone began shooting at me. There could have been so much to do. You could fight in the cage, bet on fights, and get quests from some of the people in there. But instead, you were forced to kill everyone and get some lousy companion. I'm really hoping that in 2016 when Bethesda begins to release DLC for Fallout 4, we get some type of fighting arena, sort of like the Fallout 3 DLC The Pit.

I walked in there expecting the same, like... actually walked. Then got shot at by raiders. I was like... seriously? Tried coming back in a few weeks, then a month. Nothing happened. Wasted opportunity.

I did this twice, first at the race track and again at the combat zone. It was disappointing and a lot more could have been done with it if they'd provided us a chance to interact rather than just another fight venue.

I was disappointed too. Actually at first I thought I pissed the wrong raider off. But no.. all that killing for a companion I will never use.

The race track was another. I wanted to place bets not shoot the place up.

The chubby ghoul even talks about reopening it and trying to attract a better fanbase. His name escapes me.

Hm. I think I got her too, but I don't know where she went to. I really need to send all my followers to Red Rocket. I'm tired of having to hunt through Sanctuary to find people. It is too large, and they don't exactly stand still.

Yeah, I saw the "no fighting inside" sign at the entrance, and figured it would be a neutral area where the raiders wouldn't shoot me.

This is the kind of thing I miss about New Vegas. I remember how hyped I was to find out I could ally myself with the Great Khans in their canyon, or help the raiders in that one vault. It was my experience playing NV that lead me to believe there was more to that area than a bunch of enemies. Walked in there slowly and confidently like everyone else expecting dialogue. Alas, there was none...

I just hid near the entrance until the fight was over before I started lobbing nades. The only good raider is a dead raider. But this level was definitely a missed opportunity . I expected that place to be like the brothel in From Dusk till Dawn, filled with unsavory characters that are too relaxed or drunk to fight.

Agreed: total missed opportunity. Both areas could be "neutral" to the PC, unless the PC does something to piss them off. Betting/watching fights/races/participating should be events that the PC can participate in.

I agree, I was hoping for more from there as well. Hopefully they'll repopulate it with some kind of fight club type thing in one of the free updates or DLC's.

I done the same thing, put my weapon away and just strolled in thinking I could maybe participate in a few brawls and become their champion.i was equally disappointed, definitely a missed opportunity there.

Plus, the raiders had no way of knowing that you're not one of them. It was a pure MC meets oposition moment so a gunfight ensures. Yes, very dissapointing. Cait is also a mediocre companion, she gives me such a hardtime.

Just more gunplay to show us their new gunplay inspired by Destiny.

I would like to see how Obsidian would handle The Combat Zone.

I figured based on the name it would be like the front lines in fonv...
But when I saw it was a building with a bunch of raiders outside I figured it was going to be a bunch of raiders I had to kill

Wow. So, am I the only person that wandered in to the Combat Zone dreading that it would be Mad Moxiis!? I was so happy to find out that it *wasn't* arena combat that would clog up my quest log unless I partook!

Plus, Cait is grait!
