Keen on the melee system, let down by the weapons

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 1:27 pm

I'm really tempted to start a pure melee character, but I just can't for the life of me get over how poor some of the weapons are, if not all of them. I want to be a towering goliath in a full suit of power armour two-handing a huge sword, or hammer, but the super-sledge is almost like a toothpick in this instance, why Bethesda didn't implement the fender swords like in NV etc really does baffle me, they're menacing and really lore friendly, and nothing says bad-ass like chomping through enemies with a big ass sword in your hand. Even without power armour, the weapons seem so small and insignificant, Kremvh's tooth looks awesome, but I'd sooner use that on a sneak/assassin type build.

Even something like a vertibird blade would be awesome (and huge!) Even the Rebar clubs have been removed, it's pretty much my only major gripe with the game really. I hope Bethesda, or atleast some modders will make some decent big-ass melee weapons for use in future.

Are you sure you bought right game? From what you write, you probably wanted to buy Skyrim instead :D

True, the weapons are abit lacking on the big ass side. Then again the power armour is actually abit bigger in this game compared to FO3 and FNV, so it makes some melee weapons seem smaller. If you are wielding a sledgehammer in normal armour it looks approriate. I do wish they would've implemented more weapons for melee, in general, but there a few cool ones. What bothers me most is that i can't use unarmed weapons in Power armour. Like the Deathclaw gauntlet or power-fist. I have to hit with my gauntletls, and while they can be upgraded and do pack a punch it is not the same.

Melee has always been a part of Fallout though, and it is my favourite playstyle. Just going full on Power Armour and a big ass weapon!

Actually even in fallout melee builds have a sort of intimacy compared to your standard fare sniper or VATS gunslinger..

In fallout 4 - melee can be REALLLY rewarding - ive seen people learn AI system so much, using PA they can devastate a sentry bot without taking damage

Still i get what the forum poster means.. In terms of mods - theres usually just one or two compared to 7+ for a ranged weapon

To be honest, anyone would think melee weapons would be more relevant in the Fallout universe, given they require no ammo and are easily made and maintained. Just confuses me as to why they'd put big weapons such as swords and rebar clubs in the franchise and simply not in their "biggest" adventure yet.

Same reason they didn't add the kantana and they use the chinese officer sword instead. Different design choice then Obsidian. Why? Well we don't know.

I even miss the spears from Fallout 2, having returned to pretty much the stone age in a post apocalyptic scenario, you'd think people would craft this kind of stuff, haha.
