When I reached the institute I cleared the whole place out including virgils holotape.
About 20 hours later gameplay I started the BOS quests and I am currently on 'From Within"
But it is asking me to retrieve the evidence to convince Doctor Lil. However when I go into the lab it is not there and the quest markers forever just lead to the doors of the FEV lab.
This wouldn't be an issue if I had the holotape. I must of dropped it as it wasn't marked as a quest item and I don't like much clutter.

So I have literally no idea where it is, I've slept for 31 straight days in sanctuary and went back and nothing at all had respawned in the institute (isn't that also odd?). There is no way to get the holotape and now I can't complete the BOS ending.

I really really don't want to start the game again or reload the save from 20 hours prior. I was planning on saving the game at a certain point then playing all the endings from that save so that I wouldn't have to go back to the start.

Is there any way around this? Would a patch fix this? I'm on ps4 so can't enter these commands. I'm so upset at this right now. BOS seemed like the way to go also..

Very odd you should still have it on you, the game doesn't let you drop quest items and yes it is marked as a quest item. The only thing that you might have done is left the tape in a computer somewhere (if that is possible not sure). If it does it could be anywhere and being on the PS4 I don't know what you can do other than reload. Just to be sure did you go into the FEV lab and see where the quest marker takes you? Maybe you left it there? Sorry I know this isn't much of a help wish I could offer more.

Sorry this doesn't answer the original question... I must have gone too far pretending to help the Institute because when I took Virgil's serum back to him he and his turrets went hostile... idk what I did wrong. :/

You have one week from entering the Institute to find the syrum before Virgil's mind degenerates to far

Yeah I loaded the last save where I still had the tape and it let me drop it. Full derp on their end if you ask me. It shouldn't let you drop something that's a future quest item. I'd just start from this save but I'm level 37 on it and 50 on my autosave .
I wish it was anyone else but bos ending that was ruined. I've looked everywhere for the holotape, checked computers, inventories etc it's just gone.
Such a little mistake has [censored] up 3 solid days gaming. FFS. It'll be on the floor in some random as [censored] place that I'll never ever find.
Why can't it respawn. It's so stupid, especially when I know Virgil in the game but doesn't just say that to Dr Lil or whatever.

Yeah, that svcks. I keep all my holotapes in a special stash at my base just in case. This is a Bethesda game.
