Workshop menu - changing the key binding ( PC)

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2016 10:32 am

Hello. I have a question. I am left handed so it's more comfortable for me to play using arrows instead of WASD . When I changed controls in options I still had to use A and D in order to switch targets iN VATS which was extremely annoying. So i made a quick script in AHK so that pressing arrows is treated as pressing WASD ( in order to use arrows in VATS as well) Ok , it's all cool , it worked . There's another problem though - when I trigger the workshop menu I can move my character around using arrows but can't choose building objects as arrows are hard-coded to switch through walls , floors , furniture etc. Is there a way to bypass that? Or do I have to go switch back to WASD every time I want to build something? Building like that is really uncomfortable for me.

Another question - which settlement mods are the best? I know there are a couple of popular ones but idk if they can be installed together.

That's a big issue, yes. People who use some specific gaming keypads are having trouble with that as well.

It annoys me to no end that there are hard coded keys and functions that can't be altered/re-bound/unlocked. Locking "grenade" and "bash" to the same key for example.. Lunacy.

I'm guessing (or hoping) that F4SE will come to the rescue at some time in the future.

It all depends on what you really want to add. One thing is for certain, you're going to have to make a choice. The workshop menu can only handle a limited amount of extra menu sections and extra buildable objects until it starts to misbehave.

Personally I use http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1478/? (v1.23), http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/users/8671518/?tb=mods&pUp=1, a mod that adds working food planters (made it myself, for myself), and the http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4453/?. (Note that DDP's craftable pillars and support braces needs a workaround to be compatible with Homemaker.)

Take a look at my mod http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5580/?, I have changed most of the vanilla Key binds to a left handed orientation. I have also included updated interfaces so all new keys show properly while playing the game.

There was only one key which I was unable to rebind. (Pip-Boy Menu "Use Stimpak") I got around this with a simple Auto Hotkey scrip.

This mod does Require F4SE and was how I was able to rebind the keys.

Edit: You may also want to check out http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2107/? if my version goes too far for your taste.
