Finished as a Railroad Agent

The Railroad are essentially smugglers. Their mission is to smuggle slaves to safer areas and avoid detection. They simply believe synths should be treated the same as regular humans. They used to help human slaves as well according to Des but now focus only on synths because no one else would help them.

I don't know why you think they murder innocents since that's never supported in the game. And the fact you can't imagine the possibility of a synthetic human just shows your imagination has some limitations for whatever reason.

So the Railroad will never be a group you understand because you need to be able to imagine that an synthetic being could be considered a person.

Haha, I never finished Civil War because I just couldn't choose a side between the factions as a Breton. If I would have to, I would probably side with the Empire (after assassinating the Emperor himself).

I love Dawnguard, the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. No matter how often I tried, I became a murdering vampire lord (or Lich with the Undeath mod).

It is so hard for me to join the Institute or BoS, it will probably not happen.

But they're not, so it's easier to imagine that they are just smart machines, which they are. I could imagine that they are purple unicorns but that doesn't mean I have great imagination, just a poorly directed imagination. But if you want to believe a man-made machine is a living thing, go right ahead. But if you can shut someone off, wipe their memory and upload a new one I'd hardly call that a living thing. It's a programmed machine trying to act human as designed.

One thing Bethesda didn't do well is give someone a decent reason to join the Stormcloaks if you were not a Nord. That was a pretty narrow minded bunch. Also those who were not Nords or Imperials really had no dog in the fight to support the Empire either. You could always make one up (which I've done), but it sure wasn't given to you in game.

The SS always being human kind of eliminates these problems. About the best they've done is let you romance a synth, which may give you strong feelings to support the RR, or not support the BoS. Danse is really the mind trip where if you romance him you would think it means strongly supporting the BoS which he loves, but then there's the flip and all the sudden his (and your) world is turned upside down. Pretty good twist there, I have to hand them that one.

You have to willingly buy into it and say "I'm going to believe that they are people too." to understand the Railroad's motivation. If you cannot imagine that then that's basically a limitation on your ability to empathize and you will never get it.

You can knock people out and give new memories to humans in the Fallout universe as well. The memory den is capable of erasing and implanting memories in humans according to Amari, it's just unethical.

Maybe. But if I'd have been playing a female character, it would never have occurred to me that Deacon was doing anything other hand chatting up my toon.

Tinker Tom on the other hand just seems to be channelling Huggy Bear.
