I'm scared to upgrade my perks!

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 5:33 am

So I have been playing fallout 4 for close to 300 hours and I am on my third character and can't believe how many perks are broken. I have lost dozens of hours reverting back to old saves or quit characters completely because of broken perks, I'm almost scared to upgrade a perk without researching if it is bugged or not at this point. My melee build lost about 4 hours when I upgraded the big league perk to max, it was disappointing to find out so late in the game the perk I had been striving for and was the base of the character was glitched. Here are some other perks that have caused me lots of grief in fallout 4 so far:

Big Leagues Rank 5

Demolition Expert Rank 4

Grim Reaper's Sprint Rank 3

Ninja Perk

Kill Shot

Cloak & Dagger

Nuclear Physicist with the Repair bobblehead

Any perks cause you guys grief?

The larger area of effect from rank 3 is lost when you upgrade to rank 4.

The only glitched perk that I'm aware of is Killshot. What's wrong with the other ones? I've maxed out Ninja in tow play throughs now and not had any issues with it.

The fifth rank of Big Leagues apparently resets the damage, although apparently this is just a display bug. And taking rank 4 of Demolition Expert apparently nullifies the splash damage bonus of rank 3, I guess I never noticed.

The ninja perk can also have damage calculation issues when you max out sandman and have the cloak and dagger perk depending in which order you got them between (5.4 to 6.3) Grim reaper's sprint rank 3 does not refill the crit meter and cloak and dagger also bugs out if you have armor stabilizers. There is also the issue with the bugged Repair bobblehead where you get core put back into your inventory.

Actually now that I think about it, I've heard about that one. I literally never use melee weapons, so I've never encountered it. I don't think I've ever maxed out he demolitions expert perk either.

Well that's good (for me anyway). It works fine for my suppressed weapons. I've got a huge sneak attack bonus with that, Mister Sandman, and Cloak and Dagger.

I've heard that the Big Leagues rank 5 perk bug is just a display error, but a mod on the Nexus says that whoever said that didn't do enough testing, and that you actually do lose damage.

As far as I followed the discussion about Big League 5, the only perk were I detected a bug, it's not only a display bug. It really decreases the damage back to the roots. Some tested it comparing melee and unarmed attacks and both damaged the same despite Big League 5, what should not happen. Was a bit annoyed first, but no problem any longer because I'm on PC.

As I mostly use it for exploding minigun I'm just happy with smaller explosion area the 50% extra damage is more important.

I can still use it to take out enemies behind cover

I understand that the perks not working correctly is a problem, because we paid for this and it ought to work correctly.

But, how does it really affect your gameplay? If there was PVP or even a hardcoe mode I would understand, but ultimately doesn't it just mean that some fights take a couple of minutes longer? And if you die, well, there is really no downside to that?

Perks are a basic feature of the game. You spend time and effort leveling up so that you can pick the ones you want and enjoy the benefits they say they are supposed to give you. When they fail to give those benefits due to simple coding errors by the developer, it's understandable that we are unhappy about that and would expect those errors to be on a fast track to be fixed. Whether each individual perk bug/failure has a major, minor or mostly indifferent impact on how long it takes to kill something, is irrelevant. If it's broken, fix it.
