Adding Some Extra S.P.E.C.I.A.L Points?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 11:42 am

I want to add a few extra S.P.E.C.I.A.L points when you open the Baby Book.

I know of cheats and mods but the ones available will break the gaming experience. I just need about 10 extra points to make my character a little above average at the begging.

Any suggestions about which editor I should use and what exactly I should edit?

I have opened a existing mod in G.E.C.K and FO3Edit but I have no idea where to look and what I have to edit to get the desired effect...

Thank you advance for your suggestions.

Well if you know exactly where you want to spend those points prior to running the game. You can just set up an actor effect that is checked "PC start" with the geck.

To do that ... In the object tree ... go to "Game Effects > Actor Effects > Ability " then right click in the list and select new (right column of object window)

A window will pop up named "Actor Effect" ... Give it an ID , example "00SpecialBoost01" The 00 is so it will show at the top of the list , and the 01 is incase you want to make a few other boost senario's. But remember you only want to have one of them checked as "PC Start Effect" for this simple fix senario.

You can name it if you want , but the ID is usually good enough. Then make sure the drop down says "Actor Effect" And check the PC start box.

Now right click in the large field to the right and select new. Another window will open called "Effect Item"

At the top left is a drop down box where you select the effect to add ... you'll be looking for stuff that starts with "Increase"

Just browse through the list which is alphabetical ... so "Increase Agility" will be above the rest of the others , wich are mixed in with other stat increases.

So select a stat ... make sure it says "Self" from the drop down , then just click in the magnitude , and type the increase you want ... example 1,2,3 etc...

Then click OK ,that window will close , and you will see that effect added. Now right click in the field again and select new repeating for every special stat you want to boost. If you want to change one ... just double click it to open its "Effect Item" window

When your done , just click Ok on the Actor Effect window ... Then go to "File" top left header and save it as an .esp ... that you will then put in your load order. That's for making a separate file by just loading the Fallout3.esm

But you can load up another .esp making it the active file , and just add that Actor effect to it (make a back up of it before though)

Hope thats clear as mud for ya ... hehe ... But seriously ... just ask if something is not clear.

Add edit: Just wanted to add ... try that out ... but later if you want , can explain how to set up some activators for the room with the special book ... which you can pick for different special boost mixes. But then again , You can maybe add special points to the pool they give you ... just not sure how yet. Or if its even possible without editing XML which is beyond my expertise.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Something must be wrong with my G.E.C.K. There is no "Ability" under "Actor Effect". However, the "Actor Effect" subcategory seems to work.

Also there are not many effects to add under "Effect Item" and I am not allowed to post screenshots. :lmao:

I want to make something like "Start a New Game Almost Perfect" by SleepIncarnate (Sorry, can't post links)

But, instead of 28 S.P.E.C.I.A.L points it will give something like 10.

The mod in the link above is a single .esp file so probably no XML coding is required(?).

Found it. I had to click "Load Master/Plugin Files" and load the things first.

Hey I found the quick fix that mod does.

In your object window , put this in the filter "CG01SpecialBookSCRIPT" and select all at the bottom , to find it quickly.

Or you can just browse the scripts to find it.

Open that script by double clicking it. Find the line that says "ssbmp 40" And simply change the 40 to 50 , for only adding 10 extra points.

Close the script , and you will be prompted to save , click yes. Then go to File at the top left header and save the file.

Either make a new file ,or load up another .esp you always use , and just put that small change in it.

Add edit: Although come to think of it , there may be more to the fix , so you could just simply load that .esp by SleepIncarnate

Then do the same operation , by changing that script from 63 to 50. And run their mod in your load order.

I changed "ssbmp 40" and saved as a new .esp. I started a new game, opened the book, applied the points and proceeded until the Birthday Surprise in the Vault. The game did not crash so everything went fine!

Very big thanks Mktavish!!!

Have you hit the end of the vault yet where you can redo all your stats?

Was thinking if you re-assign special pts ... it may revert back to the 40 limit.

Add edit: Looks like it will in this script "Vault101ExitScript"

Because of these 2 lines ...

elseif button == 2

SetSPECIALPoints 40

So just change that 40 to 50

Actually I had not...

I wanted to have this mod before I start playing the game and then I had other things to do and no time to play.

Thank you for the tip, you just saved me a lot of time. I guess I own you a crate of beer. ;)
