Very subjective but.....

Lightweight but strong - add ballistic weave to any number of clothing items

Normal style armour - I favour leather/synth based arm/leg/chest on a leather based bottom layer

Strong - I like the T45, I know X01 is better but I prefer the T45

I like the heavy ballistic combat armor for most stuff and go to the X01 for tough situations and added carry weight. The combat armor with the deep pocket build is nice for most routine stuff.

X-01 power armor is the best power armor.

Synth armor is the best normal armor.

Slap a ballistic weave on the underarmor for maximum resistance numbers, but feel scummy for cheesing the game so badly.

see I was wondering that, does the armour under power armour contribute towards the damage resistance?

No. When you're in power armor, only the power armor's effects are applied. This also applies to other armor effects like the carry weight from deep pockets, rad resistance from lead linings, and any legendary armor effects. You don't receive any of those bonuses while in power armor.

I like my T60e Ti, all tricked out. I'll trick out an X-01 when I get a hold of one. Mine runs like a deer and is much tougher than the BoS crap.

How much damage resistance can you get from ballistic weave ? I see all of you guys say it's OP.

And what level of armorer do you need to craft it ?

I don't know about the synth armor. I used to use it, but the upgraded and unique combat armor has much better numbers. I could never get abouve 8o or so with synth. Started to switch to various combat armors and now am up to about 130 on damage resistance

Then you haven't found Heavy Synth armor.

I have full sets of heavy combat armor and heavy synth armor with their max upgrade mods. Synth armor is better. It's a shame it makes you look like a plastic can.

You need 1 rank in Armorer per upgrade after the first one. 4 Armorer gets you Ballistic Weave Mk V gives you 110 Damage Resist and 110 Energy Resist. The first level of Ballistic Weave gives 30 to DR and ER, Mk II gives 45 to both, Mk III gives 65 to both, Mk IV gives 90 to both, and Mk V gives 110 to both. You can apply this to 4 hats (Battered Fedora, Green rag cap, Trilby hat, and Newsboy cap) and some clothes and outfits (Army fatigues, Military fatigues, Minuteman outfit, MacCready's duster, Courser uniform, Maxson's battlecoat, and quite a few other rags, suits, and dresses). You can also get Institute Killer Weave which only grants 20 DR and ER but gives you a 10% damage bonus against Institute members and synths.

Ballistic Weave really could afford to get nerfed by half. As it is, clothes with Ballistic Weave are better than T-45 Power Armor (at least as far as DR and ER are concerned).

Yep, pretty much this. I still haven't found any armor better than Synth stat-wise, although the Devastator Right Leg is stronger than Synth version. Don't know why the Fallout Devs decided on that... looks even weirder wearing full synth with that leg because I choose armor based on stats.
