S.P.E.C.I.A.L, Luck question.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2016 5:06 pm

Can somebody properly describe everything luck does? Does higher luck affect the amount of ammo in containers? The chances of finding a better prefix on a legendary? What's the list of things it actually does.

If anybody else has questions about the S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats feel free to join in.

You better off paying ammo instead of having high luck. Luck is great for pistol characters because the luck tree allow you to get a lot critical hits.

Just from looking at esm files in fallout 4 edit, luck only controls critical recharge rate. Meaning the higher your luck is the fewer hits it takes to pull off a critical.

Where things get messy is when you add in the luck perks. Scrounger for instance gives a chance at pulling from another loot list everytime you loot a container. However, the only luck needed is that to take the perk itself. More doesn't help.

Sounds about right. But if you planned on buying ammo wouldn't it be a good idea to have the cap dealer perk for cheaper prices?

In my survival test character I have 2 or 3 luck points, just to get the scrounger perk. Only have one point invested in that perk though.

As far as I know the base only effects critical recharge.

Luck is something that doesn't do much by itself but if you do spend perks into luck, it is amazing. I don't do anything with Luck myself because of my personal beliefs though.

I prefer TES without luck than FO 4 with luck. I have about 15 in luck 24/7 (clothing/armor). I rather have very high INT, more xp.

I'm pretty sure luck has no effect on the quality of legendary drops. I haven't noticed and that would also involve Bethesda ranking effects, which I doubt they would do (and some effects are much better on certain items, e.g., explosives with automatic weapons).

Besides crit recharge rate, it might have some have some slight effect on Fortune Finder? Not sure, I could just be imagining it though.

well luck fills up the critical meter faster, you need it for certain perks, it doesn't seem to hurt my luck is at 9, i always put a lot of points in luck, as far as for ammo, not sure but the scrounger perk is good for that, i just take the first rank and that perk helps finding ammo, as for the guy whol can't get enough ammo, use several weapon types, and take the scournger perk and buy little bits of ammo here and there but .38, 10mm and shotgun shells you really don't need to buy, i don't even buy .308 or .50 cal ammo, i only have to buy 5.56, plasma and EC ammo, if you use 4 or 5 weapons that take different ammo you won't ever run out.

Todd Howard (In his original speech about FO4) said Luck affects two things: The recharge rate of Critical Hits in VATS, and the mods attached to weapons that drop randomly in the world. As far as I know, this does not affect Legendary modifiers in any way.

I have a Luck of 1 and I feel no effect, sometimes I do even feel lucky when finding good weapons and defences, like getting a spiked leathered arm defence with +1 Agility and +1 Perception from a Bee flying at night. I get other good stuff as well.

I accept that other players, a high Luck works well for them.

I put the points that I would have put in Luck into Agility Perception and Intelligence. I haven't had horrible luck yet... only when I make bad play, smile.
