Where are all the instruments?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2016 6:53 pm

I'm not really sure why my brain decided to notice this, but it did. There is not a single musical instrument in the Fallout world. I find it unlikely that every instrument was destoyed in the war, but if they were, wouldn't you think that someone, in the span of 200 years, would've came up with some sort of make shift drum or horn? I know it's probably not everyone's first though that they should make a guitar right after a nuclear explosion, but I would think that there would have to be at least one instrument laying around somewhere.

I think there's a violin in Fallout 3. It's been awhile though, so I could be wrong.

Yea that's always been a small detail that bugged me, I'd really wish we got wasteland bands. The closest we ever got was a violin and a guitar which is kinda boring.

I think the point is more of time has progressed enough that we should be getting new kinds of music or new bands. Hell, we get two singers who make their own songs already in New Vegas with the Lonesome Drifter and in 4 with Magnolia

As the bombs fell the people did the only sensible thing at the time: Destroyed all their instruments, then ran for shelter.

When every day is a struggle for survival I doubt they have much time for music except via radio. Half of the wasteland cannot even wash their own face and wear rags. Musical instrument playing is probably not high on their list of things to do.

Yeah you're right. No instruments or even a piano anywhere. You know someone would have a piano. We do have pool tables though and pinball machines.

Yeah, now that you're pointing it out you're right. Haha. I have not seen one instrument in any of the Fallout games. Maybe every single one got destroyed haha.

Most days I wake up in the morning and the songs are playing in my head.

It's a good point, how is there not a musician in Goodneighbour? That is exactly the kind of town that would have someone there to play, you'd be famous as [censored]!

It would be cool to hire a bard like you can in Skyrim or even learn to play yourself like in the Sims where you use the guitar and the character starts out playing simple stuff and gets better the more you use the instrument.

A blues guitar player on the corner playing for caps would have added a lot more personality to Goodneighbor.

It's part of the 50's vibe, when everything about pop culture was New and Improved, and traditional was bad. Music was about the radio, not live play. Food was about Cram, instant potatoes and Salisbury Steak.

Not sure why the focus on musical instruments, there's a lot of objects and things you could probably think of that weren't in the game. You can't make everything, otherwise you'd be at it forever.
