Chances of Morrowind alliance against Aldmeri Dominion?

Post » Sat Apr 16, 2016 9:43 am

As topic states, what are the chances of Morrowind allying and sending its military to help the Empire who turned its back from them when Red Mountain erupted when the next Great War with Aldmeri Dominion starts. Discuss.

Personally I think the chances is Morrowind being mostly controlled by House Redoran will likely to sit from the sidelines to watch both sides kill each other if they can even muster an effective army to wage war since the Dunmer of Morrowind has no love for both sides for different reasons and just reap the reward of destroying the victor.

Minimal alliance of any kind.

It's not that they have specific ideological reasons not to. It's just that they're not in any state to defend themeslves, let alone aid in a war. Any support they give will be token at best.

I think this is how the Mede Empire will handle Morrowind's case.

Scenario 1: (Mede Empire is losing the next Great War against the Aldmeri Dominion) Mede Empire: "Morrowind you my bro why you no help, you owe me this because I say you are my bro for long time!"

Scenario 2: (Mede Empire not in trouble) Mede Empire pretends not to know Morrowind so that they don't have to help Morrowind with their problems.

While Morrowind will be saying "We no part of Empire" in both scenarios

House Redoran might be persuaded to provide humanitarian aid to Skyrim following the Civil War or a second Great War since they're generally the most honorable House and the High King made a formal declaration accepting refugees and withdrew claims to Solstheim following the Red Year, but they're still in no shape to fight and are still struggling to feed their own people.

Were do you get that from? It's only Raven Rock that has some problems(and nothing that is that severe)and that's only because it's one of the least important colonies.

Raven Rock in particular isn't doing well and the settlement not growing their own food and having it imported is indicative of that, yes, but that there are at least seventy-three other settlements in the same boat is not encouraging. That note you quoted indicates that House Redoran is, at the least, not prosperous during the time of TES5. They're probably not super poor or anything, but they don't have extra resources to send out of the province.

My guess is that it's unlikely. Morrowinds broader concerns seems to be focused south toward Argoina, since there's still fighting near the boarder. The Dominion likely is not making things better by sending weapons there, really.

Why would they help? They have no reason to fight the Dominion, why fight a war that for all intentions is completely pointless for them?

This is ignoring that the nords specifically in Windhelm have been harassing and treating the Dunmer like crap with Ulfric doing little to help the Dunmer there and letting the Grey Quarter turn into a slum and Ulfric ignoring bandits that attack Dunmer refugees and caravans and given that the civil war is barely a year old at the start of skyrim these aren't new problems but ones that have most likely existed throughout Ulfric's rule.

Not to mention that Nords and Dunmer have thousands of years of enmity behind them--even beyond the general misanthropy of the Dunmer. That doesn't go away over night or after the Nords "kindly" gave up a worthless chunk of ice and bare rock for the use of Dunmer refugees.

I agree with the others: Morrowind has no stakes in this war, and they have a long history of isolationism. Morrowind has no great love for the Altmer, but they have no great love for the Empire either. As long as the Dominion leaves Morrowind alone--and what would they really want there, especially in light of unrest in Valenwood and Elsweyr and a very temporary truce with the Empire?--then Morrowind has nothing to gain and a lot to lose by going to war with the Dominion. Not to mention that it would be easy to invite Imperial soldiers in; it would be a lot more difficult to get them out afterwards. There's no Sharmat under Red Mountain to make an alliance with the Empire appealing now.

Morrowind has always been incredibly insular and all its military excursions have been for self-interest. If they're not directly threatened, they won't. And if their current government is anything like their old one, if they are threatened they'll pretend they aren't for as long as they can.

It means that they have the money to support dozens of settlements outside of Morrowinds old borders.Finite recources and the unwillingness to support a money sink does not equal being poor.

Redor and and the other houses sit on the largest ebony and raw glass deposits in Tamriel they should be able to make money (oh and Gemstones)

Actually they do grow food...ash jams.
